Did this guy really post a thread saying "Breaking News" with no link, alluding to an opinion rather than actual news?

In all fairness, the thread title doesn't have "News" in it, just "Breaking"  ;)

If we're going to keep Rondo (I don't think we should), we shouldn't rush him back, even if we weren't rebuilding. Ignorant people do not realize how hard torn ACLs are to come back from, even with the best doctors and surgeons.

You mean he will play immediately? Camp and everything?

No clue lol, but the assumption that he'll miss half a season is just plain wrong.

He should be ready to start the season or near it, but who knows.

Thank you for sharing Rondo's medical report.  Are you also a doctor or did you stay at a Holiday Inn last night?

 ;)

It taking Derrick Rose a full year, right?  Expecting Rajon back in February or later isn't outside the norm.

Why rush back for a team that is jettisoning all its best players?

Yeah and it allows nearly a "full tank" without getting rid of Rondo, which would be nice.

I seriously dislike these "doctor" threads. Here are a couple of obligatory statements that go in all of them:

"Every body is different, healing is a process"
"The last thing you want to do is jeopardize a career for a few games"

Oh and one that applies specifically to this thread:

"You don't know anything about this because you haven't ever seen Rondo's x-rays and all you know is what the media reports."

I find that one to be spot on for all of the medical speculation including the OP.

Here is some basketball speculation. Rondo's timeline changed dramatically when Ainge changed his entire team in the span of two weeks. I imagine that Rondo could have been back by training camp but probably not 100%. He's probably the toughest PG in the NBA so I won't question his will power. However, even with a championship contending team I wouldn't have wanted him back until December or January.

Now Ainge is moving pieces and parts, probably trying to get bad for the lauded 2014 draft class and Rondo (should) might have different priorities. I imagine he felt some sense of obligation to PP and even more so to KG to get back as fast as possible and contend. Unless he's traded I doubt he's coming back until at least January, regardless of his medical clearance. Honest to god if he's a Celtic come the start of the season I  don't expect him to start playing games about 2-3 weeks before the trade deadline. Just long enough so that other teams can see he's still a great PG post surgery.

The end of my speculation is that Rondo will be traded either before the season starts or at the deadline. I don't think he's a rebuild guy and I don't think Ainge is willing to risk landing out of the lottery by letting him come back early. Any fool can see that Rondo/AB/Green/Sully/KO is better than at least 10 teams in the NBA. I'm sure Ainge sees it too.

Exactly, we're competing against some habitual tankers right now so the C's will have to be really bad or really lucky.

Do you imagine Rondo feels an obligation to the team and earning his $12 million paycheck and maybe that's why he is trying everything to come back as soon as possible?

That team is easily one of the five worst in the league.  It will be one of the worst teams ever on offense.

I think Philly is really going for the kill. Plus they have some good picks in 2014 as well.

Should say jettisoning all its best 37yr old players... That is a better representation of whats happened, no?

Well Ainge was asked today once again, and he reiterated that the surgery went very well, so his expectations remain that Rondo will be ready for the beginning of the season until he hears otherwise.

Celtics trainer has been spending the last couple of weeks or so with Rondo to make sure he's doing his rehab and training.

Here are my thoughts on it, I posted this in a thread a few days ago:

I know that the typical surgery to repair a torn ACL normally requires anywhere between 4 to 12 month of recovery time (although it obviously depends case to case as we've seen with Derrick Rose.)  Rondo had his surgery on February 12, which means he could hypothetically be ready for basketball before the season starts.  If Rondo takes the Rose route to his basketball return and it takes him a full year to come back, that would put him on pace to be back with about 30 games remaining on the 2013-14 schedule.

For reference, here are some other NBA players who suffered ACL injuries and their respective recovery times:

Recovery Timetables

7 Months
Bonzi Wells* (April 6, 2001)
Kendrick Perkins (June 15, 2010)

8 Months
Jamal Crawford (July 2001)
Leon Powe (April 19, 2009)

9 Months
Al Jefferson* (February 8, 2009)
David West (March 26, 2011)
Iman Shumpert (April 28, 2012)
Ricky Rubio (March 9, 2012)

10 Months
Al Harrington* (January 23, 2002)
Josh Howard (February 22, 2010)
Michael Redd* 1st injury (January 25, 2009) ACL, MCL

11 Months
Corey Brewer* (November 26, 2011)
Tony Allen* (November 2, 2007)
Eric Maynor* (January 7, 2012)

12+ Months
Jason Smith* - 14 months (August 6, 2008)
Nene* - 12 months (November 2, 2005)
Adam Morrison* - 12 months (October 20, 2007)
Michael Redd 2nd injury - 14 months (January 10, 2010) ACL, MCL
Shaun Livingston - 20 months (February 26, 2007) torn ACL, MCL, PCL, lateral meniscus, disclocation of patella and tibia-femoral joint
Baron Davis** - TBD (May 6, 2012) ACL, MCL, patellar tendon
Derrick Rose - TBD (April 28, 2012)

He'd be stupid to NOT take some extra time. He shouldn't let ignorant people, who have never torn their ACL, pressure him into coming back too early, re-injuring himself, and ruining his career.
