I think we should hold out for the 19th pick and a second as well as include a salary in there, like Bass or Terry.
Personally i believe that this is a great deal. Terry bass and lee can be traded to contenders during the year. And Garnett if he returns would be someone else that could be traded if he accepts but again this cleveland deal is the best possible deal for pierce since it means we get the huge trade exception. That by the way we don't have to use on one mega trade it can be used on several different trades but every salary you add with the exception it takes away from the 15 mil.
It would be more valuable to have the First and the trade exception. Who is giving away a 15 million dollar player for a second rounder? That makes no sense. ...but if Steven Adams is a possibility, maybe Utah trades us Milsap.
Yes it would be more valuable to get the first and the trade exception but there is no way that cleveland is doing that and if Danny even asks for it you risk the cavs walking away while laughing. Cleveland is sitting pretty because the celts were talking about eating 5 mill by waving him. With this trade we don't eat any of the contract and we get two early 2nd rounders that are as good as 1st rounders if picked properly.
You are ignoring the reality that Cleveland is a total armpit. LeBron was BORN in Cleveland. He is intensely loyal to his best friends. ...yet he leaves Cleveland. Why? Cleveland is not a "cool" city. Maybe some white hipster into microbrews and black-framed glasses would like to bicycle around there while he works on student films - but black, wealthy, NBA players are going to have more fun in virtually ANY other NBA city (yes, even Milwaukee) (...Minneapolis is another loser destination city.)
Cleveland is not signing a free agent. If they want to build, it has to be through the draft. If Pierce falls into their laps, they have an opportunity to (1) bring in a Champion; and (2) a chance to impress him into an extension. Irving, Pierce, Noel, Waiters Thompson is an actual basketball team. ...without veteran leadership, who are the young guys looking to? Varejao? That guy is a good enough player - but come on! He's a joke! That's not a guy you look to as a leader. Look at his hair!
Cleveland is a total garbage town. They should pay a premium for great players. And Pierce is one of the NBA's true great players.
In case you hadn't notice anyplace not named houston, miami, or LA has no real chance of landing quality free agents unless you have a STAR in place. Or unless you make a Trade Garnett didn't want to come to boston either because boston was an armpit. Also the cavs have something we don't have at the moment and that is a star player(kyrie Irving) who guys want to play with. The only way the celtics get relevant again is by getting assets to then make the next big trade. We love Boston because it's where we are from but players don't because its cold and the same players some still think this is a racist city. I know it's not because there is racism everywhere but that what other NBA players think about boston. Especially the young ones Oh and our Clubs don't stay open until 5 in the morning like in miam orlando houston and LA. Real TALK!!
You make a good point. The Cavaliers are one of the winningest franchises in NBA history. Their fan base is comprised of so many more wealthy and powerful people than the Boston fan base, and post career - there are WAY more options for a Cleveland based basketball player than there are in Boston. Just compare the Cleveland ownership and the Boston ownership. It's like apples and oranges. Dan Gilbert is so much more mature and level headed than Grousbeck. I know that, if I were a player, I'd rather count on him to make important team decisions than a core of "stiffs" who refuse to make gigantic public noise about their team.
Pierce should totally prefer to "hit the road jack" [chills when you remember, right?] than to live in an NBA city that will burn your jersey in effigy.
And if that weren't enough - Cleveland is so much less dangerous than Boston. Never have to fear that you'll get robbed, or jacked in Cleveland. And when you go out to the clubs, you can definitely look forward to meeting loads of attractive, college, or just post-college aged women from solid socio-economic backgrounds who would make great wives and mothers.
You're totally right about the weather. The weather in Cleveland and Boston are so different. Fortunately, Cleveland is also geographically located far away from all of that "hubub" in the Boston/New York area. When comparing the two, I'm sure so many NBA free agents are thinking about how great it would be to spend their twenties eating bratwursts and listening to polka, instead of exploring the gigantic varied nightlife Boston has to offer.
That's probably why Cleveland has been able to attract "A" list free agents, like Luke Walton.
...he's worth a first rounder, if it's Cleveland.
