I cant beleive we would do the captain like this, Cleveland?

With Pierce, Cleveland could be looking to break out in '14. Their well situated to be a playoff fixture for years to come. Top 4-7 point guard-when healthy- in the League. Nice young nucleus moving forward, including a ridiculous amount of picks that could be used for acquiring more talent.

I'm just surprised because I was/am convinced they are going to make a run at Lebron when his contract is up. Pierce may help or hurt search.
Pierce would be out the door to make room for LeBron I don't think it'd effect their pitch to LBJ at all.

Other than if they make the playoffs with Pierce they can point to that and say think of what we could do with YOU there instead of an aged Pierce.

Hey maybe Pierce would re-sign on the cheap and fulfill his destiny as the ultimate cagey veteran dropping buckets off the bench.

Lebron has stated that he views Pierce as his rival. We all know how he has no problem joining with the opposition.

The best way to quickly rebuild to respectability (i.e. being competitive but not elite) is to stockpile a lot of productive, useful young players on "value" contracts.

This trade would help us do that.

It's the sort of thing Daryl Morey would do.

It's the sort of thing Danny Ainge did. Except, you need salary to send back in deals when you're ready to swap the young players for, well, real players.

Reminds me of Presti as well. The Thunder rebuilt successfully through the draft, it's possibly best chance to receive a franchise altering player.

It doesn't even have to be a top of the draft stud. Houston has one of the best assets in the league by finding Chandler Parsons in the second round. They had to swing and miss on a few 2nd round duds but eventually struck gold.

Cavs also looking to package picks 31 and 33 for a third first-rounder:

Also, sources tell SheridanHoops.com the Cavs are in serious discussions to acquire Shawn Marion from Dallas in a lopsided trade that would allow them to move up from No. 19 to No. 13 in the first round by relieving the Mavs of Marion’s $9.3 million salary, allowing  Mark Cuban more salary cap flexibility to use on July 1.

So, expect Danny to acquire a bad contract or two for that very purpose (Rafe, Wally, Theo). Expect fans to hate on him for doing it, too. BTW, that's what I figured Jordan was going to be...this rebuild's Theo/Rafe.

You know...Dallas wants CP3. CP3 seems to want KG. I wonder if KG would drop his NTO to go to Dallas? They wouldn't be able to get both Paul and Howard, to put next to Dirk, but Paul and KG would be a very good alternative.

gives the c's more leverage with the Clippers

Dallas can add cp3 and howard now I believe

What about another idea since reading the link the cavs wouldn't mind trading 19th for a lower pick

To Cavs: Pierce + 16th

To Bos: 19th, 31st, 33rd and Casspi

I like the way Casspi plays and i see alot of potential

Pierce is worth more than that.

I bet Ainge has a great idea about having the inside track on Josh Smith and that this exception would easily be enough to reel him in with a sign and trade. He'd have to be confident in that to pull the trigger. Or maybe he's trying like hell to get assets to get 2014 draft picks. This really might be the best we get for PP. Might be doing him a favor as well because he's not going to get to $15m in a high % of his trade scenarios.

Sure. But the next step is the hardest, and something that has eluded Morey for years. He's still just stockpiling.....

Edit. That said I do like this trade for pp. the TE is quite valuable.

Pierce is worth more than that.

What would you consider fair value then?

In terms of helping us with our rebuild I think this is as good as it probably gets.

Arguably, Morey could have been there if the Chris Paul traded hadn't been nixed and the Rockets had ended up with the rumored Pau Gasol-Nene frontcourt.
