By being difficult, the Clippers have backed the Celtics into a corner. When Doc still had the option to return, the Celtics could demand compensation to let him out of his deal. Now that this issue has continued in the news for so long, the Celtics have lost all leverage as it seems Doc really can't come back anymore after this.

I don't like the precedent of not getting compensation. The coach is under contract. You can't just let him go when information gets leaked to the press or teams will always leak information to the press for leverage.

I don't see it that way at all. They are the ones trying to appease CP3 and they need/want this deal in a bad way. Ainge isn't going to let Doc go for nothing at all.

Why don't the Celtics just let Doc out of his contract so he can get hired by LA?

It's quite obvious that you can NOT just swap a coach for a 1st round pick in the NBA.

And then, why don't the Celtics and Clippers just do a separate deal with KG going to LA for Jordan, Butler and a 1st round pick?

Then in the end, KG and Doc still end up in LA.

Not sure why this has become so complicated!!

You can swap a coach for a first-round pick.

Jordan and Butler together are too much salary for just KG, however.

Why does David stern get in the way of anything remotely related to Chris Paul ? Does it have to do with cp3s position with the players union?

let doc, kg retire and release paul, jordan and 2 late pick were probably a little more than a waste of wyc's money

something nice but not exactly great

Now that I think about it didn't CP3 raise his voice or get into it with Stern or Silver during negotiations?

Stern's messing with both our franchises. You guys are mad at the clippers for what reason, cause they're trying to get a good deal? your franchise has been doing stuff like this forever. it's called negotiating.

Even if Doc doesn't come back the Celts hold his rights for the next three years. If he wants to sit out for three years then that's fine. Some team other than the Clips will decide they want him and give up a draft pick.

wth do picks have to do with sterling being cheap or not? the clippers dont want to trade the picks because they might need them, not because they're cheap. if they were cheap they wouldnt be prepared to offer doc that 7 mil deal, griffin a max contract and cp3 a $100 mil plus deal.

it gives sterling the perfect get out of the deal, the only reason he wanted to do the deal is to appease paul, now he can say see i tried to do it, but the league won't let me

so i guess he only "tried" to sign griffin to a max contract, too?
