The talks broke down Tuesday morning when the Clippers "refused to budge" on Boston's latest proposal that asked for DeAndre Jordan, straight up for Garnett, and two first-round draft picks as compensation for allowing Rivers out of the final three-years and $21 million of his contract.

He's always trying to swindle the other team. Face it Danny KG is 37 years old if they would have gave up Jordan and Bledsoe Great, but they don't. WHY? Cause he's 37. Take Jordan and one first we have to rebuild. I'm not the biggest Jordan fan but he's 24 years old, one of the best shot blockers in the game, and we have nothing as far as NBA level size. No bigs Sully can rebound. I'll be really mad with Danny if he screwed this up.

I'm glad Danny passed on this particular offer.

Agreed.

The Clips backed out of this deal because they are cheapskates.

Kevin O'Connor's article on the front page makes some decent points about value, but I don't think this was a case of Ainge valuing his guys too highly.  KG and Doc for Deandre Jordan and two 1st round picks is arguably a fairly low return, considering Jordan's inflated salary.

I think it's fair to say that the only reason Ainge was willing to come down to that offer in the first place was because he didn't have a very good bargaining position, to say the least.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Are you kidding me?

This is stupid on the Clippers part for refusing. This was a great trade for them, and it is idiotic for them to pass it up. In fact, I would have been p---ed off if this trade had gone through, because that would have been a terrible move for the Celtics. Jordan is a decent back-up at best, and we get two completely worthless picks?

I'm glad you aren't running the team if you think this was a good deal.

I also don't buy the narrative that seems to be playing out.

If the Clippers haven't moved off their initial offer why the heck did they spend 3 days talking about it?

More has gone on than has been released via media.

I would still love to do the Doc part of the deal by itself.

Doc for a first round pick. Do that. Figure out the rest later.

Don't get this as it was the Clippers that pulled out and mostly over money. They didn't want to pay Doc $7 million a year for 5 years. They didn't want to have to pat Jordan's trade kicker. And they valued their low first round draft picks so much they could not part with 2 of them.

Now they have hurt their ability to bring in Chris Paul as his perception of the front office is not going to be very high. He wants rings and an ownership that would be willing to spend to get those rings. Sterling is now proven, he isn't that type of owner.

Count me among those happy Ainge didn't back down any further. I don't want him doing deals for the sake of doing them, we need to get back something worthwhile.  DJ + and pick in the 25 or lower range just isn't worthwhile.

Maybe we've adjusted ours more than they've budged?

From Bledsoe, to take Terry/Lee, to picks.

But who knows.  As I said in the other thread, to me the Clippers seem to have been feeding the media information.  I don't think we do know the truth.

  • It's all about the TEAM!
It boggles my mind when I think what the Clippers almost had with their current squad and picking up leaders like KG and Doc and keeping Paul and Griffin and other assets at the same time.

That team could have been fun to watch, although it would have made me sad to see. When it got down to the WCF, I could see myself cheering for them against the Lakers, OKC, Memphis or other contenders. And it seems like they would have had a legit shot at the Finals and maybe even the Title. They would have been the talk of the NBA! And you blink on DJ and 2 1st round picks??

I am SO HAPPY this deal didn't go down!!!  8)

Ainge is phenomenal.  We're extremely lucky to have him as a GM.  Dude is all about thinking outside the box.  They've had to change rules based on his loopholes... remember when he traded Payton to Atlanta only to have Gary back in Boston within a couple weeks?  The NBA had to to change the rules, because of him.   And now Danny's trying to trade his coach for two first rounders? Lol.  I love it.  Dude set's precedents.  Dude has vision.  Dude would sell his own mother if it would bring Boston a title.   Ainge is amazing.  People bashing him don't understand what being an NBA GM is all about.   He'll do anything to improve this team.  Dude tanked in 2007, we ended up with the worst case scenario #5 pick, and he flipped his roster into a champion with a 3 year window.   I love Danny Ainge.  You wouldn't want a different GM... trust me.

One more year of KG in the locker room is worth more than DeAndre Jordan and a late first round pick.  Let alone KG on the court.  The Clippers wish they can unload the atrocity that is DeAndre Jordan's contract.

OP said that "Danny is always trying to swindle the other team". Are you saying that he shouldn't be doing that? That he shouldn't be trying to get the best case scenario in everything and try to get as much out of any situation possible?

His original proposal was Bledsoe, Jordan, and 2 firsts. Bledsoe was the highlight of the deal, and he refrained from him to try to appease the Clippers.
