I assume the phone calls went like this, and I'm rehashing myself, so bear with me.

Clips: Chris Wants KG. How do we get KG?

Celts: KG only wants to play for Doc.

Clips: Well, uh, how do we get Doc, too? We need a coach. Chris drove the last one out.

Celts: Bledsoe, Jordan, and a pair of first rounders, including your 2014, for both.

Clips: *Apoplexy*

If the report are true, I'm glad the clippers got cold feet. I would've considered him more of a "moron" if he accepted KG+Doc for DJ+1 pick. :D

I still don't understand the desire to blow it up now.  Can't they make some noise next year with Rondo and Sully back?  I know that Pierce and KG aren't getting any younger, but they are still well above average players.

Rondo and Sully will be rounding into well-above-average form until January, at the earliest. Do you think our roster without them can keep them afloat of the playoffs until then?

Didn't we do ok without Rondo and Sully last year?
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

Ainge has done an excellent job, but if Doc and KG wanted to leave, he should've pulled the trigger on the proposed trade.

KG is a better player than DJ, but DeAndre is a valuable asset that has more suitors than KG. The lottery teams won't trade their assets for KG because it wouldn't fit into their long term plans and the playoff teams that would want KG, usually aren't willing to give up one of their core pieces for a veteran that has 0-2 season(s) left (this being one of the few cases... because what the Suns received for Nash is usually the return).

Jordan can be traded to any number of teams that would balk at KG. Just a short list of what Jordan can bring in return is:

Hawks - Josh Smith
Bobcats - Gerald Henderson, 1st
Cavs - 1st (possibly Nerlens Noel) or Varejao
Rockets - 2013 Draft Picks or Asik
Pelicans - Eric Gordon

Those are teams that would have no desire to acquire KG, but would probably be willing to trade the above for Jordan. The value for 25 y/o centers that have averaged 8 PPG, 8 RPG, and 2 BPG is at a premium and that isn't even half of what Jordan can bring in (if you don't like him as a player).

Ainge did a masterful job last summer, just too bad we had a coach who really does not want to coach. He is more concerned with watching his son's career than coaching basketball. Doc should be gone, he is fleecing the Celtics. Even the clippers were smart enough not to want to overpay Doc.

Why didn't he take less money to get the deal done. I thought his defenders said he did not need the money? His defenders also said he wanted to be close to family. Well I guess La is closer to Orlando in terms of weather.

So I would really like to know Ogaju, why you completely flipped your opinion about DA over the last day?  In this thread:

http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=65612.0

you were saying he needed to be fired and it was all his fault we had given PP too large of a salary and you basically blamed everything on him.  But now you say he did a 'masterful job' last summer and it was really doc's fault.  How is it either of their faults that RR, Sully, and AB all went out with season ending injuries?  And doc is more interested in watching his son's career than coaching?  You have some really 'interesting' opinions.

This.

Sure, DA could have accepted the trade just to get this over and done with, but I am glad he decided to stick to his guns.  He knows he can find a bit of a better deal for the proposed pieces of KG and technically Doc.  I tip my hat to Danny on this one.

Because we had to play Pierce for far too many minutes, leading to his complete lack of anything approaching his normal game in the finals.

If, say, we got to a 25 minutes limit for Pierce, with KG still only playing 20 minutes (with exceptions for when Pierce and KG coerce Doc into letting them play more), do you think we can do as well as we did last year?

I'm dubious, and it's hard to even make the playoffs if you start the season 15-25.

Ainge is  a moron for trying to make a deal with the clips,  I suspect  he did that out of respect to doc,  cos he wanted to go there in the end cheapskate sterling didn't wanna pay deandre tk which under the cba he should,  and he balked at paying doc salary

I'm glad Danny passed on this particular offer.

Agreed.

The Clips backed out of this deal because they are cheapskates.

Kevin O'Connor's article on the front page makes some decent points about value, but I don't think this was a case of Ainge valuing his guys too highly.  KG and Doc for Deandre Jordan and two 1st round picks is arguably a fairly low return, considering Jordan's inflated salary.

I think it's fair to say that the only reason Ainge was willing to come down to that offer in the first place was because he didn't have a very good bargaining position, to say the least.

Nah. I don't agree about O'Connor's article at all. He's FAR too linear in his measurement of value, and he fails entirely to consider several other variables, such as the value of a retirement, etc. That article is really quite errant, and is little more than one fan's haste to break up the Celtics.

As for Ainge, the truth - as it usually is - is somewhere in the middle between the haters and the people who think he's a genius.

Certainly, he has had his notable failures: The "potential" he accumulated prior to 2008 would have consigned the Celtics to the scrap heap forever, and the proof lies quite clearly in that group's overall body of work - or disappearance into obscurity.

There simply is nothing less than blind faith unsupported by evidence to suggest that this team could be burned to the ground and Ainge would construct another champion from the ground up.

His off-season following the championship was a disaster, and his off-season last summer produced pieces that didn't fit.

Happily, he was in the right place at the right time with all that alleged potential, when Sam Presti and Kevin McHale were holding fire sales. But assuming those deals can be replicated is another example of the blind faith referenced above.

He was spot on unloading the albatross that is Kendrick Perkins.

And no sane person would move Garnett and Rivers for a decidedly limited, vastly overpaid center and one draft pick. To call that value is absolutely laughable.

With Ainge, he giveth and he taketh away.
TP...very objective look at things and probably not far from the straight truth.

Interesting to see what CP3 thinks about all this. They lose him over a draft pick and a few million they are toast!

Hell maybe CP3 wants to play for Doc and with KG enough he demands a trade to Boston! ;D

CP3  was BORN a LAKER .....its his dream ..... Stern  busted his bubble....... Being DOWN THE HALL in 2nd fiddle Clipper office sucks to him....... close as he could get.

If there was anyway he could get on the LAKERS and not play for league min. he would.

I'm really surprised he and Dwight haven't split a deal to get CP3 some of DH's haul ,  surely to have his buddy , DH could spare a few million .

Now , if DH would just go to Houston , all would be good.

CPC3 will be laker one day ....just a matter of opportunity .

If your buddy handed you the keys to a championship, you'd be a winner too, I guess.

I also hope no one in this thread has complained about flopping and whining in Heat-related threads. Ainge looked like he was going to cry half the time he played.
