Is Jeff Green's contract starting to look like a bargain?

I'm starting to watch Green become more aggressive as we get closer to the playoffs and I'm starting to wonder if Danny hit the jackpot with this kid.
What are everyone elses thoughts?
Trading him for Perkins was a good idea although a big gamble at the time given our bigs situation.
Two things are standing out for me that I wasn't expecting (positive surprises)
* His defensive prowess
* His mid range and three point shooting ability

I'm also noticing him become a raging bull in his efforts to get to the rim.
At 9 million per year I can see him easily becoming a 20/5/5 guy.

Consider that Rudy Gay and Joe Johnson get 16-17 million a year (almost double), and he's arguably already a far superior defender and has the offensive potential to be as good or better than both.

I don't know if we keep him for the future. I guess he's so cheap  it would be hard to part ways with him. The great thing is he's an excellent trade piece and his market value will sky rocket if he can average 16-20 points and defend the best players in the NBA for 30 minutes a night.

Verdict: Bargain

On a team of him rondo bradley and sully, i can see him getting the ball quite alot and becoming 20-22 ppg type of guy, this is hoping rondo will average 18-10-5 sully 15-10 and bradley 15 ppg with help off the bench i can see it working. All i know is good [dang]it we are gonna be fast on the break.

As much as I've loved seeing Jeff finally start to get things going in the second half I'm not quite ready to jump on the Green bandwagon simply because he has been so inconsistent overall. If he can keep up this level of play (or something near it) I will be very happy. If he can be somewhere in the 18/5/5 range on a consistent basis then he is a steal at 9m.

That being said he can still disappear occasionally and I'm curious whether he can maintain the efficiency he has shown recently when he gets even more attention from opposing defenses. He has a great ability to attack the rim and shoot the 3ball but I'd really like to see him work on his mid-range game more so he can be more of an overall threat. I realize mid-range jumpers are inefficient, but every team needs a guy who can knock those down and PP is retiring soon. If Green can work on that aspect of his game (probably his worst) and take on some of those important shots he's going to be very good.

But until I see Jeff play this good consistently (and by this I mean I want him to finish out the season with similar per 36 numbers and not disappear in the playoffs) I can't honestly say he is a bargain. He could just as easily revert back to his career line of 13/5/1.

I voted too early to decide.  He is definately earning his money but not sure he is a major bargain.  I would say the contract is ok.  Early in his recovery this season he would not have been a great signing for the MLE.  Now he is pretty much better than most if not all MLE players.  I would currently place him below most of the guys earning over twelve million or so but he is approching that level now.  Most of the bad contracts in the league are for big men so it is hard to compare.  JJ and Rudy Gay are bad contracts so not really the guys I want to use to say we got a great contract with Green.

Yeah, his lack of apparent commitment on rebounding drives me crazy.

But he's quietly climbed to third in TS% on the team (behind Wilcox and JET) in a year he's had to overcome both a nearly full year's layoff from the game and reported aftereffects from his surgery.

I expect him to be the number one or two scorer on the team next year (and even the number two scorer, as he's been of late, through the end of this year and the playoffs).

Add that in with his demonstrated ability to guard LBJ and yes, Danny signed another Rondo-like deal.

Green has more talent than most players in his class.  Think he was held back at OKC , a place with too much young talent.  His best days are yet to come.

Gonna need ALOT more serious firepower than Green and Sully going forward , when Pierce and KG retire.

Aside from players on their rookie deals, you won't find many players in the NBA making less than Green does who are producing offensively as a top 2 scoring option the way he has the past couple of months.

Green's contract is quickly becoming a trading asset, rather than a liability.  If he plays the way he's been playing for the next month, he could become the centerpiece to a trade.

Not a bargain per se but the right amount, yes.  Guys of his height and ability get paid what he got paid, it's that simple.  But of course to those who don't look at the market he is overpaid.
