I said it after the Wilfork injury that I thought an injury to Mayo or Talib would be much more devastating.

Sadly, we're about to find out.

Losing Mayo is a big loss for the Pats. He was having a helluva season and probably the anchor of that defense although you could argue Talib also.
So he's out for the season. Who gets the green dot then, Hightower?

I think it's time for Spikes to earn his money, Hightower to prove that he's a keeper, and Collins to show that he can make something of his considerable physical talents.  Dane Fletcher has an opportunity to prove himself, too.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

Yup from the sounds of it. I'm perfectly fine with that too. He already acts like a 10 year vet out there anyways.

There's gonna be a lot more situational sub packages with that LB core now, though.

I think Spikes is gone after this year.

Hightower has already proven to me that he's gonna be a keeper going forward. Been very impressed with him.

Ditto on both. Spikes has been and will continue to be helpful this year, but he's gone after this year. Pats just simply won't be able to afford him (let alone whether they want him), especially given they'll need to pay Talib.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
I get that we're not as a good a team as we were a week ago with our new injuries, but I hate how people doom the team before we've even played another game.
Next man up is going to be a nauseating mantra over the next several weeks, but its how it's always been in NE. Whether its Brady, Wilfork, Gronk, Rodney Harrison, Ty Law---we've made it with out each one of them. Aside from not making the playoffs with Cassell despite a 11-5 record, we've proven time and again we can weather the storm of injuries we have. We may not go 15-1, we'll probably lose a couple of more games, but I think we'll find a way, the next man up will get more snaps and figure this out. Luckily, we're not even half way through the season, so there is plenty of time and hope.

Gronk apparently got cleared to play this week.

Tom Brady is just not what he used to be now. He overthrew people several times on that last drive. He's merely very good now.

I've heard of "home cooking" before, but that's just ridiculous.

In all honesty, a player of Brady's caliber should be able to win the game after being given the ball so many times. But that call was a joke.

I agree the Pats had plenty of opportunity.

Not only a bad call, but pretty outrageous that it carries a 15 yd unsportsmanlike penalty.  5 yards and a chance to re-kick makes better sense than handing a team the victory.

Brady has looked bad on deep balls all year and has been surprisingly unable to find receivers when given time.
But I don't think I'm ready to say he's officially gotten worse.  He hasn't had a decent arsenal of receivers (note: nothing produced out of the backfield since Vareen went out), and his protection has often been below par.  Obviously, working with rookies and guys that aren't used to each other means that some of the plays Brady looks bad is really about the receiver making the wrong cut or read.

I do think if Amendola gets healthy and Vareen returns, this offense will be very good by playoff time.

Gronk uses 2 hands to catch, and Pats win that game.

If only Chris Jones was on the line of scrimmage at the snap of the ball. Oh wait...
