Final Nets offer Orlando rejected in July: Lopez, Humphries (1 year, $9.6M), Brooks, 4 unprotected No. 1's for Howard, JRich, Duhon, Clark.

Instead, Magic are getting 3 or 4 protected 1sts, Harkless, Vucevic, Al Harrington, and Afflalo for that same package.

A much better offer than what they accepted here

Agreed. Frustrating to see.

So my only thinking here is as to why the prefered this offer.

Presumably they will have 4 draft picks this year isntead of 4 spread out over 4 years.

Also Lopez and Hump probably makes them a 8-10 seed in the east, maybe they just wanted all the picks this year and to be really bad

I hope Orlando never gets a number one pick again.

I just wish Gasol had been traded; I can't stand seeing him play for LA

The only problem is this year's draft is projected to be horrible. However, Lopez and Humphries are not exactly the frontcourt of anyone's dreams...

I honestly don't see it as a "much better offer".  The Brooklyn picks weren't protected because they didn't have to be.  Does anyone really think that if they traded Dwight to Brooklyn that Brooklyn's picks would've been lottery picks?

A team with Dwight, DeRon, Joe Johnson, and Wallace is going to be in the lottery?

Those unprotected 1sts are worth less than the protected 1sts they acquired.

Afflalo's overpaid.  It would be interesting to see Lee return to Orlando, though.

I'm not saying I would do it.  Much rather have Lee.  He's younger and much more athletic.

I still can't believe this is the trade Orlando finally accepted.

Just in disbelief. What an awful return for the NBA's second best player.  Unbelievable.

Its deals like this that turn people off the NBA. Am curious to see whether stuff like this affects tv ratings and attendance.

Orlando has to back out of this deal. Everyone wins but them. I just don't get it. They would be better off letting Howard walk then getting that return. Or the value of letting him walk and what they're getting isn't that far off anyway.
