The Top 5 Lurkers post got me to wondering what Celtics board(s) you first started posting at.

For me, it was the old AOL Celtics board (SportsGuy's old board) back in the late 90's.  Spent a fair bit of time over at another board in the mid-2000s, and have been here at CB for the past few years.

Boy, some of the battles that have raged over the years.  The most heated ones seemed to happen when we were lousy, and had to do with how the team was being managed (win at all costs NOW vs accumulating chips and when to cash in, etc, etc).  Lines were drawn in the sand over the job Ainge was doing, more than any other topic.

Funny thing is, even with the success we've had over the past 5 years, there are still posters that cling tenaciously to their anti-Ainge stance, though the thrust of the arguments have shifted over the years from his perceived poor performance, in their view, to more about his poor treatment of people (along with focusing on mixed draft results).

Before that, of course, were those who actually supported Pitino, and those who thought he was awful.

Anyway, those are sidebars.  Was more curious about what boards you used to haunt back in the day.

None! This place was the first. I was linked to a post on the front page by a friend of mine who was trying to get me more interested in the C's. I liked the cut of this place's jib, and lurked for a while before registering to post in the forums sometime after the season with Shaq started.

I started in the Globe Chat Room with a bunch of the old guard on here... around the time of the Ricky Davis trade, when my interest in the Celtics was sort of renewed.

I started over at the ESPN boards. There was a troll over there named TA (TradeAinge) who used to always asked what everyone had for lunch and then critique their choices. I wonder if those boards still exist??

If I ever lose my job and have lots of time on my hands, I may start my own lunch critique over here.

FanHome and hagrid sound familiar but honestly I used to just bookmark the forums that I visited and didn't really pay attention to what it was.  Maybe it was FanHome.

Bounced around for a bit afterwards before landing here as my #1 destination around 2009.

  • And the Truth shall set you free
This is a great thread!  I started back on the ESPN forums when i was around 13-15 years old.  I still remember spending countless hours defending Paul and Toine on there, holding on to hope that they would one day bring banner 17.

I fell off for a while when Danny blew up the Pierce and Toine tandem and i went off to college and found new... "interests."  I still followed the Celtics but i lost the time to get online.  when I finally tried to return to ESPN forums they were gone.  One of my college advisors who was a huge Celtics fan put me on CB because it was the only site that gather all Celtics news into one place everyday.  That got me hooked and I've been here ever since.  That was about 2006.

Ha! Boston.com chat room. Me too. Back in either '99 or '00? Shouts to Chizzdogg, oldfan, evol, Motown, bleedgreen and the countless others I've forgotten over the years. Hope you guys are all still checking in--back then it was more of a support group than a fan board. When you spend the entire summer debating the Vinny Baker deal and whether Joe Forte was a Yankees fan...it's what kept most of us from drinking too much.

It's funny, whether we stink or whether we're good, these boards are great fun.  It's just cool to be able to gather at a place where you all have a shared interest, even with all the heated disagreements (maybe because of them).

the yahoo board. I lurked on CB for a while then made the switch permanent in '06 or '07 (but was initially here with a different name before closing that account and opening a new one as CMAN).
Celtics fan for life.

I use to post on Celtic Nation all the the time pre 08.

I even remember when a new user posted on there that he has inside information that KG was coming to Boston, we all doubted him then later that day it was announced.

There were/are some great posters on that site with tons of bball knowledge and history of the game. But no where near as popular as this site.
