Maybe I missed it on previous postings, but one of the more active Celtic boards was the 'Usenet' group called alt.sports.basketball.nba.boston-celtics. Verizon stopped supporting 'Usenet' groups years ago. Thus, more people gravitated to the Internet based boards. I believe if it that format were still available a lot of posters would prefer it over what we have today. (Just my opinion)
For those 'not' familiar with the Usenet format, it worked best using MS Outlook Express. Although, you could access it on the Internet as well. From my experience, it just didn't seem to be as interactive on the 'Net'.
I felt the 'Usenet' format was a lot more dynamic than present day boards. Since the responses to the postings were collapsible one could see many-more listed postings at one time. If you clicked on the posting you wish to view, numerous follow-up responses/threads could pop-up. Old postings could be viewed without changing pages. Thus, it was normal for topics to be discussed and rehashed for days, weeks or even months. This led to closer friendships and often-times more animosity. Sometimes the arguments and name calling got to be pretty pathetic. And, since it was virtually un-monitored, trolls could wreak havoc whenever they wanted. But, overall it was a pretty good experience.
Although, one big advantage groups such as Celticblog.com had over the 'Usenet' format is that we get to respond to continuous flow of featured newspaper or sports articles. That was one thing those groups lacked that I wish it had. Although, to be honest, I'm glad they removed 'Usenet' because I found it too addicting. I'd waste at least 1-2 hours a night responding to the various threads when I should have been doing other things.
