Has wdleehi posted anything in reference to the coaching criteria?  i.e., can retired coaches, college coaches, etc., all be drafted?
No, I don't think so. I pressed the search button and searched for coach on the 2012 CB Draft Rules page but it didn't find anything. No mention of coaches.

I presume the same rule applies to coaches as players -- if a player has a contract abroad, he is ineligible for the duration of the contract. If a player has retired, unless he has given a recent indication of coming back (within last 60 days Wdleehi said), he won't be eligible.

Actually in the past i think bringing over foreign coaches was allowed... as would be bringing in a college coaches or former NBA coaches who are still coaching age/inclination (i.e. not a guy like Tommy Heinsohn).

I seem to recall retired/unemployed coaches and international coaches being selected in last year's draft. For example, I believe both coaching brothers (the ___ _____'s) were selected, even though one (now both) wasn't actively coaching.

We should probably decide one way or the other whether those sorts of coaches are eligible.

I don't believe so.

IIRC last year we made the shift -- with the addition of the weekend round -- to real life/living coaches. But that's pure specu-remember-ation on my part.

Oh and wdleehi said you HAD to draft Rick Pitino, Roy. Sorry. ;D

Funny enough, our team probably has the personnel to make Pitino look good in the pros.  They've probably got the conditioning to press on defense for 40+ minutes.

Yeah, last year retired, overseas, and college coaches were all allowed.

I'm shocked  you'd say that (i.e. something flattering about your team  ;)).

Actually, I'm gonna go ahead and say NO TEAM has the ability to make Pitino look good.

Success is a choice and he done chosen.  >:( :)

whoever "won" last year should feel free to use this one:

I'm using that top image for the next years lottery. We had some sponsors willing to fund us for next years selection show, if that's alright.

Thanks to the people who tip us at work for sponsoring next year's show.

Can't wait for tomorrow. I predict at least one earth-shattering trade, some contentious picks, a minor meltdown, and boatloads of snark.

Plus whatever the rest of you have been doing.

I had to repost this, because I came pretty close to nailing it.

Trade? Check.

Contentious picks? From me, not quite (traded out of the round).

Minor meltdown? Check (those in the chat room saw it).

Snark? Maybe just a single boatload. But it's only 10 PM here, so I've got time to work in another boatload. Just need someone to provide the raw material. How about some coach selections, people?

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
It's been said before, and it should be said again: the 4th and 5th rounds are where teams are made and broken. Sure, the first and second frame the draft. You need stars to build around to win. But the 4th and 5th rounds have a unique place.

People who traded out of them for cornerstones get jumpy, more likely to make panic moves. You can still find an established starter, sometimes even a borderline all-star dropping. People start to freak because the guys they though would be there in the late 5th early 6th start coming off the board. A saavy GM should consider trading out of the 3rd for a 4th and 5th next season, because this draft shows us there is money to be made here.

ronaldo943 will now be co-gm of the Wizards.

Feel free to send offers his way as well as mine. ronaldo943 has been very eager and passionate about joining in on the fun here and we are happy to have him. This also helps me a great deal in an effort to be more punctual.

Please welcome ronaldo943  as a Wizard Co-Gm.

I always thought that granger would get moved so the fact that he was traded is not a surprise, but I'm not sure I like moving him for AV.  I love AV when he is on the court but two years, 31gp and 25 gp makes me nervous.  I probably would have traded granger for another scorer, but one who doesn't score in the same ways as Lebron.

You can pick anyone you like to coach.

The Knicks once had Whoopi coaching.

There was that baseball team that the little kid inherited and named himself Manager.

Scoring isn't a problem for our team.  Jeff Green is as efficient as Granger (or moreso), and playing beside Durant he was a strong second / third option (averaging between 15 and 16.5 points).

Arguably, rebounding and the ability to match up with certain big teams was a weakness.  Now it isn't.
