Look, even IF he was upset about the KG courtship (which I certainly wouldn't agree with), the bottom line here is that this just added to the littany of issues that bothered Ray.

Looked at singularly, sure - I couldn't agree with Ray, here.

But on top of the 2-yr trade dangling...answering to petulant Rondo (Yes - some of us have called Rondo THAT before on the blog)...the unstability?

We have to look at the ENTIRE picture here, not just one thing.

Rondo was dangled 3 years ago, and has been repeatedly since.  Remember the potential trade to Detroit that would have sent Rondo and Ray packing?  I'm sure Rondo has gotten extremely angry about the trade rumors, but he has used them as a chip on his shoulder to get better.  Pierce was dangled for YEARS and he still has a level headed approach to the process.

As far as Rondo's relationship with Ray.  Let's not pretend that Ray's OCD and sensitive nature  didn't have a lot to do with their deteriorating relationship.  KG and Pierce have reportedly clashed with Rondo MANY times.  But at the end of the day they are able to shake it off and not take it personally.  Rondo has attacked pretty much anyone and everyone at some point.  You would think Ray could realize it says more about Rondo's nature than anything else.

Rondo never had the opportunity to leave

And He wasnt replaced in the starting 5

please add the facts and dont just blame it on one

If Ray is sqabbling over starting or coming off the bench, then he is selfish.  Paul Pierce offered to come off the bench if it would help the Celtics.  The concept of the 6th man was invented by Red Auerbach, I believe.

Also, I think that all Celtics have been rumored in trade talks.  Ray Allen wasn't traded from Boston.   Had he been he wouldn't have left as a free agent.
I don't think you can really find a way to side with Ray on this one.  There is a value in the Celtic franchise that transcends basketball.  It is unlike any other basektball franchise, I can think of.

And it is one, that Mr. Allen is no longer part of, in any way.
Love never fails. Character never quits. And with patience and persistence, dreams do come true.

Haha. You still hear "Ball Don't Lie!" at my house a lot when opponents miss free throws.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I can understand why Ray might have gotten to feel a bit marginalized.

But that's hardly a reason to cut bait and join the sharks.

Ray is a prideful guy

And pride goeth before a fall.  I can't wait to see how Ray deals with the chronic line up and rotation changes from Miami's coach.  I mean, he just won a title doing it so he sure ain't going to stop now.  If Ray goes into any little slump during next season, he'll be DNP-CD so fast it'll make his head spin.

I don't like using the term "prideful" when discussing Ray's reasons for leaving Boston.  You could easily argue that pride is the very same reason that Pierce would never bolt to Miami.  All of these Hall of Fame players are prideful in different ways.  The word pride doesn't really highlight the specific reasons that Ray left.

It really was time for Ray to go.  If I am Doc I would be glad he is out of the picture. Ray could not deal with his lesser role going forward without a change of scenery.  I think by midseason most people will feel a lot less emotion over Ray leaving.

You know, he probably sold the Celtics out during the Eastern Conference finals. The major word here is, "Probably." And, no, I don't have links or anything to support this theory.

We got rid of a bad seed.

Ray leaving isn't a bad thing.  I bet the lockeroom is stronger as a result.

Ray left because he felt disrespected by the Celtics.

He was the one that offered the lowest contract amount two times (10 million 2 years ago and 5-6 this time, that is less than Bass). He was the one that was benched for Bradley.

Rightfully or not. After all, he only received $3 million from the Heat, the C's dont have to pay him more than market.
He wasnt feeling the love so he left.

There isnt one reason. Its not Rondo, its a culmination many things that led him to feel that he was not receiving the respect he felt he deserved.

Ciao - Ray.
