Another thing to consider is which guy is going to cost more?  Despite other teams being after him, it's likely that Mayo will be more expensive than Ray.  There's a fairly small number of realistic destinations for Ray, while Mayo will draw interest from far more teams.

So, the question isn't Ray or Mayo.  It's probably Ray+Green+Bass+Kamen or Mayo+Green+Bass?

Nice vid, ballerbt.

OJ's going off vs the Spurs.

Ray's gone off vs the Spurs, Lakers, MIA, CHI, etc.....

Still more bullets left in his chamber, too.

I'd say get that wheel (ankle) of his fixed, and he'll look good again in Green next year.

Memphis is supposedly about to offer Ray the MLE. Can we sign Ray for a little *more* than that and do a S&T for Mayo?

Grizzlies get their man and both teams still have the MLE to use???

Maybe we throw in that OKC 2nd rounder for keeping Ray out of Miami?

Supposedly Mayo wants more than his qualifying offer, which is already more than the MLE, and a starting role. I don't want him if that's what he will cost.

Let's sign and trade Ray for Tony Allen.

Ray allen....the key is you just have to limit him to playing off the bench for 25minutes a night...when he comes out he'll be fresh/rested and you can make him the offensive weapon

when he was healthy he shot 45% from 3 this year...thats a rediculous number...any team would love a 3-point shooter like that on their bench..and I do as well

If neither of them is priced too high and Ray's willing to come off the bench it's easy, but it doesn't sound like he is so he'd be making the decision for you.

Signing Ray, Green, Bass and Kaman isn't going to happen under any circumstances, in case you wondered.

I say Mayo because Ray is to old and if we pass on a young 24 year old great offensive player that can learn how to play defense easily, if you sign Ray over Mayo, then u get an old great offensive player who has only 1 or 2 years left in him.

I would rather take Mayo because he still has a long career ahead of him!

What do you guys think? ???
I think you need to reconsider your opinion that Mayo is a great offensive player.  He's yet to have a PER of 15 during his career and Ray on a bad ankle beat him by a sliver this year during the regular season. Mayo in this year's playoffs had the third worst NBA efficiency for players with 20+ mpg per game.

OJ Mayo Career PER
Regular season 14.1
Playoffs 11.0

Ray Allen Career PER
Regular season 19.0
Playoffs 16.9

Memphis is letting him walk without a qualify offer as a RFA because they're afraid he'd take it.

i think if ray goes to miami is cleary an f u to the celtics, because his getting better offers from contending teams, so i hope he gets booed if he ever turns up at the garden with a heat uniform.

I am not an oj mayo fan he last two years he has kind of sucked, could be because he has been playing in wrong system with memphis emphasis on post play

40% form the field isn't a great offensive player, although he may do better here

I wouldn't care much who we got as long as we get one of them.  They each have their pros/cons which have been said already in this thread.

The one problem I have with Ray is that we totally change our offense when he is in the game.  He began to have a very difficult time creating space when running off of those screens last season, and he's not going to get any faster after ankle surgery.  If our plan would be to continue to run an offense like this, then I'd go with Mayo 100%.

Those numbers are awfully misused there considering Ray is not going to be the player going forward that he was in his prime when posting a higher PER and OJ Mayo will be soon entering his prime so we should expect to start posting higher PERs than he has thus far in his career.
