Atlanta needs big men.  Sign and trade of Bass and Kristic with Royce White and the second round pick (possible international stash)should be perfect.  Two good players and a couple of young players with upside is a lot for one year of Josh.

I don't think Bass and Kristic any better than Horford and Pachulia. They would probably sit on the bench, that is if Kristic even comes back to the NBA. Much of Bass' success this year came from playing with Rondo and the big 3 and getting many open looks. It won't happen on other teams.

As for Royce White, I think the Hawks can easily get a pick in the 17-19 range for much less and grab him if they really want him, and use Smith to get something better.

Totally agree.  Josh Smith allows us to match up very well defensively against the Heat.  He's the only one with the strength, length, and athleticism to help slow down Lebron.  You need someone like a Josh Smith and it will be very hard to score on us.  But the question is what do we have to give up to make this happen and what is Ainge offering if he is even thinking of this deal?  We need KG and Pierce back.  If we keep Bradly, we don't have to worry about paying Ray Allen.  But if we give Bradley up in trade, we get Smith but lose a valuable scorer and our future at th 2 guard position.  Tough choice.

Josh Smith would be so effective with the Celtics. A guy like KG to keep him motivated. A guy like Rondo to feed him easy hoops so he doesnt worry to much about offense. His shot blocking and rebounding would be huge...especially against someone like Miami.

Look at it like this...

The Heat may start Bosh at C and keep LeBron at PF. The best counter is KG at C (like he's been playing) and a Josh Smith type PF. A guy athletic enough to at least make it a challenge for LeBron (in comparison to everyone else).

You can pack the paint with those guys.

If he wants a more hefty contract, the Clippers would have a chance at him, but with birdrights we could offer any amount. So let's say we sign and trade Ray for $7-10m - we could use that as a base build an offer for Josh. The deal could look like this:

Don't know why some Cs fans are so high on JSmith.  To me, JSmith brings memories of AWalker and that's not a good thing IMHO.  I know they are different players, but there are some similarities I can't ignore....starting with the 3pt shooting.

Anyways,  If Danny thinks that's the best we can do to challenge for a championship, then I am all for it.

Supposedly the C's have given Royce White a Promise at # 21, but other reports are stating that the Hawks are the team that really wants White .

Now I know this couldn't happen on draft night because the only players under contract are PP,Rondo ,Bradley,Johnson,Moore  , but I was wondering how long do you have to wait to trade players after you draft them(and don't trade them on draft night)?

I am thinking a deal of

S+T Bass, #21 Royce White and # 22 and filler might be able to land Josh Smith. The deal breaker to me would be including Bradley to that package .

Josh Smith is on his last year of his deal and has already made it known for the past few years that he wants to leave Atlanta. He is also best friends with Rondo and played in high school with him as we all know .

So do you think a trade like that could land us Josh Smith ?

That is nowhere near enough to get Smith.  The Hawks don't have to trade him right now (they can wait until the trade deadline) and they've said time and time again that if they traded him they wanted a young all star in return.  That package doesn't get it done at all....

Having a guy who you are want to move for the right price is different than having a guy you are dying to get rid of.

They will likely move Josh Smith, but they're not going to give him away just to do it. He's an all-star talent, and while he's had his maturity issues, they're mostly in the past.

That said, I have no idea what his price tag is.
