Hornets will entertain offers for 10th pick if someone also agrees to take Ariza or Okafor contracts.

We know Ainge loves this draft, but does he love it enough to take on Ariza's contract? Ariza would fit it nicely with our team though. Plus, with 3 first rd picks we would have the ability to move up even higher.

I would, but then you have to pretty much let Green and Bass walk if you still want to have cap room to add a big like illyasova or humpheries

I'd say it depends on what we would have to give up, although I would rather take Okafor and his contract.

If it's a draft night deal, it's got to involve Pierce or Rondo. There's no other way to make the salaries match up.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
My guess is that it depends on whether or not the big three decided Tp retire or not.

Not seeing how it's possible. And I'm not sure if there's anyone I love in that range, anyway.

won't we have a bunch of cap space so we won't have to match salaries ?

Aren't we able to renounce our players before then?

I wouldn't. Okafor has a huge contract.

I definitely want Green, but Bass is not worth more than what he is making right now IMO. So if he declines his option then...bye.  I don't want to overspend on either of those FA's. AInge has also made it clear that giving long term contracts to non-stars is a recipe for disaster.

Meanwhile, if I'm Toronto, why am I not on the phone right now with the Hornets?

Ariza would be better than anyone else they have at SF, his contract isn't that onerous, and they would then have a second pick in the top 10.

That cap space doesn't arrive until July 1. Draft is June 28.

I'm fairly certain that you could agree to a deal in principle and execute it once our players are renounced. Which would mean the Hornets would be selecting for the C's and we would later acquire the rights to that said draft pick.

That is true. It's why I prefaced my comment with "if it's a draft night deal."

But, more importantly, why would the Celtics renounce free agents to bring in Ariza, if Pierce is also on the roster?

Edit: Unless the plan is to blow the roster completely up, so you've got Rondo, Bradley, Ariza, JJJ, Moore, three incoming rookies, and cap space to try to land free agents.

I'm down for it as both their contracts end in 2013. So we have a stuff salary cap and we have to build up through the draft which is what I planned on doing this year anyway. We will have no problem getting everything we want and the free agency list in 2013 will be great anyway. We don't have to get a superstar our of the draft as we may have a shot at dwight, josh smith, al jefferson, favors, ellis...ETC

And most of those options are Unrestricted at that. 3 picks in the 1st round is more than enough to have a beast of a team for the future.

Because it's not about Ariza, it's about how much Ainge covets a top 10 selection in this draft. Ariza could replace Pietrus if he's not re-signed. I think the C's will renounce everyone just to clear the cap holds. Then they'll use the money they have under the cap to re-sign KG and probably Green. I think is we do this deal, then Allen is definitely a goner.
