I really think this is a no brainer and im surprised there are so many people saying no to this. The FA pool is stronger next year for bigs and that is when we need to dump big money for a FA not this year.

Ariza's contract ENDS IN 2013 so technically it will be  1 SEASON . okafor's contract is for 1 SEASON, only difference is that ariza   has a player options and okafor has an early termination ( if someone could explain that a little better to me that would be awesome.)

That year if we can let go of one of them in the free agency we may have alot  of cap again if we can restructure PP deal and im sure he would be down for that to land dwight.

Doesn't he have a player option? So it's one year more than we'd like. Not sure.
Plus i don't think ariza sucks like everyone claims he does. He was just on a crappy team and i can see how that would lower someones morale. He may give tons of energy off the bench. On the other hand we have okafor and im not sure how the early termination things works though.

Nobody says he sucks completely but he'd still be overpaid. We won't be able to sign other players.

Who would you sign anyways? The free agent market in 2012 doesn't look really good to me. If we can get a top 10 pick with a one year rental i'd take that bad contract. Our management still has a amnesty clause to use, in case they want to get ride of a bad contract.

Most 3's can be very effective 2's, including Pierce

Just so everyone is clear on this: Ariza has two years left on his deal. Second year is a player option for $7.5 mil, and it's unlikely he declines that option.

Please help, I am trying to understand.

I would be all for adding Aziza in a deal like this but it doesnt seem realistic with our personnel.

If we got Aziza at 7.2 we would need to give up players who had 6.4 in salary.  So something like ST Green & #22 or ST Bass and Dooling & #22.  Is that right?

I cannot imagine NO would take the Green trade, but if New Orleans went for it I would be very happy with bringing everyone back for another year.

Rondo
Ray / AB
Pierce / Aziza
KG / Bass / Nicholson (#21)
Leonard (#10) / Stiemsma

Try to move JJJ for a future pick.

Fill out the roster with Dooling, ETwaun, Wilcox, Pietrus, Sasha, Quis, Hollins, or #51

If we take care of our cap holds with KG/Allen and other free agents we could absorb his salary with cap space and send back a trade exception. That would require Boston making a lot of decisions pretty quickly.

Pierce is the only bad contract the C's could amnesty.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Ariza is definitely a decent player...or was. I have no problem absorbing his contract for a year. Maybe this even sets up the possible Dwight trade with another piece to add to Rondo (Green or Ariza). I guess it all depends how 'special' the player is that we could take at 10.

I would be shocked and appalled if New Orleans sacrificed the #10 pick to move Trevor Ariza.

I do not believe this rumour. Okafor, okay, maybe, but a midlevel deal like Ariza's? No, I just can't wrap my head around that. That would be so incredibly wasteful.

They wouldn't be "giving it away."  My guess is that they would be looking for a later 1st rounder in return, and offering the #10 pick.

As for our role here, as I think has been mentioned, we would have to renounce the Bird Rights of KG and/or Jeff Green to do this deal.  Assuming we can get KG to come back for another year, I am completely opposed to renouncing his rights so we can move up to the #10 pick.

The only other way this would work, in my mind, would be a sign-and-trade deal with Jeff Green.  And personally I don't think you are going to get a much better player than him at the #10 slot.  So I pass on this.

Why draft a potential starter when you can clear up some cap space for an overpaid role player in FA? :D
