I will go with the captain, Paul Pierce.  Probably going 01-02 when he could still play SG, but haven't decided yet.  He was a great defender that year and hit the outside shot like a man that year as well, but depending on what happens may go with the title year.

I would definitely go with the title year if i were you.

Especially since Malone never won a ring, putting a leader like Paul and Finals MVP on the roster shores up that kind of arbitrary and nonsensical but very real weakness.
Yeah there is definitely that, but I do like the 02 year because Pierce played both the 2 and 3, was a great defender, a monster scorer, and the team did make the ECF (and was essentially him, Toine, and a bunch of scrubs).  If I end up with a great 2 guard down the road, I will go with the title season, but if my next wing is a 3, then I have to go with 02.

Chris Paul > Steve Nash

i agree.

Also wrong.

To add my two cents in the Nash/Paul debate, I believe Chris Paul is the better all around player, but I like Nash better as a leader. With Scottie Pippen, a guy who for his entire career was always the second star, I like the 2 time MVP in Steve Nash leading the show. Plus with Scottie Pippen around, you can deal with Nash's lack of defense.

Is Nash really more of a leader then Paul? Neither has ever even played in the Finals let alone lead a team there.

He's been farther along, had more playoff success, and has more experience as a leader.

How is he not better? Just because he's never been to the Finals, that makes him only as good as the guy who has also never been to the Finals?

Yeah. I mean there are guys who are legends, were the best players on their team, but didn't win a ring. And because they never won a ring they are looked at as less. The fact Nash has never even gotten his team to or lead his team to a finals with way more talent then CP3 ever had makes me wonder how you can say he is a better "leader"

Because he was the leader of those teams. He's had more success in his career as the leader of those teams, and, at the points taken (whatever yr for Paul and the 05-06 year for Nash), he had a ton more experience doing it.

So how is there a counter-arguement there?

Good gawd, IP; supporting cast.

Its easy to forget how prolific a scorer and overall player Ray Allen was in his career looking at him in Boston.

Like your frame of thought, here.

Paul was certainly someone on my radar, for the reasons you stated.

Yes, it's the "count the rings" argument all over again.

They were the respected 'leaders' of their teams, yes. And while we're starting to understand that the Hornets team CP3 had might've been a better supporting cast than we originally thought, it still wasn't nearly as good as the cast Steve Nash had around him.

To simply state one is a better leader because their team advanced further is silly.

Well, a lot of the guys I had hoped would slip to me are gone now, but I think this pick works for me here.

Think of Lebron, what are the two biggest knocks on him?

Not a great shooter, and doesn't preform well in the clutch.

Well, why not select arguably the greatest shooter in NBA history, also known for his clutchness and late game heroics.

The Pacers select:

Reggie Miller.

Would have loved to have gotten Ray, but Reggie's right up there with him.

I honestly wrote his name in for my selection, hit 'post' and got one of those 'another post has been submitted message' and switched up my pick.

I feel like Pau's one of those players whose value improve in this format. Great shooter, great passer, suffice defender.

You're partially right. Stating Jordan is better than Kobe simply because of the 'count the rings' attitude is stupid.

But the rings Jordan has are partially indicative of why Jordan is better than Kobe.

And in the same way, considering the success of his teams, his time as a leader (he would've been 31 when I'm taking him, Paul only 23 or so), and his experience in the league, I'm not sure how its possible to argue Paul the better leader.

Well, a lot of the guys I had hoped would slip to me are gone now, but I think this pick works for me here.

IP, I'll have to take this argument to PM - there's a point I can't make w/o naming and names.

Wow.  Close call on my part, I guess.

I think a Gasol/Robinson frontcourt works.  Offensively, I think they're complementary and, from a rebounding standpoint, very strong.
