League insisted on holding out for young pieces in CP3 deal. Getting Gordon AND Wolves' unprotected 2012 first-rounder is a haul right there

- Marc Stein

Everybody will forget the veto now. Stern made the right decision.

Yeah that pick could be huge.  Eric Gordon coupled with Jared Sullinger or Harrison Barnes is a nice combo.

Lol you mean AND right? The hornets record will likely be worse then Minnesota's record. Plus don't put it past Stern to make those ping pong balls bounce New Orleans way like he did for Dan Gilbert after lebron left. I expect the hornets to have two top six picks and likely the number one overall pick.

My only problem with this deal: what happens when Gordon says "thanks, but no thanks" and this saga happens again next year?

Restricted free agency prevents all that my man. They just match any offer he gets.

I'm sick of hearing about this story, I just don't care any more. Seems like it's the season of conflicting reports: first Chris Paul is likely coming to Boston, then it's the Lakers, then the Clippers and the Warriors, and then nothing, and then the Clippers again. And David West to Boston was a done deal but that got overturned too. And now we have Jeff Green being dismissive and saying everything is dandy but now it's apparently something serious regarding his health. Really. Frustrating.

The Lakers lost Odom in this whole saga, and only have a trade exception to show for it. :D

With CP3 and Marc Gasol gone; and Dwight's lack of interest in Celtics, who do we sign next year? :-\

Guess we sign everyone to reduced 1 year deals, try to get a more legit 5, and run it back until 2013.

Edit: or, a bunch of scrubs to 1 year deals, blatant tank for picks, then make a splash in 2013

2013 FAs:
Maggette, Baron, Josh Smith, Kevin Martin, David West, Mo Williams, Andrew Bynum, Anthony morrow, Chris Paul, jarret jack, Jameer Nelson, Elton Brand, Louis Williams, Gerald Wallace, Manu, Calderon, Al Jefferson, Devin Harris, Milsap, rashard lewis.

Plus a bunch of RFAs.

A murderer's row.

It is so awesome that it looks like the Lakers will fail to get both Paul and Howard.  Maybe they'll actually have to suck for a decade like the Celtics did when Kobe retires.

David Stern for Executive of the Year!!!

I would love, as much as any other Celtics fan, to see the Lakers stink for a while, but lets not get ahead of ourselves: even if the Magic hold onto Howard all season, there's a good chance he goes to the Lakers next summer, and it won't cost L.A. any players to get him at that point.

Do you guys know what his QO will be? He could just take it and bolt.

Would love to add Josh Smith, Kevin Martin and Big Al if possible in 2013, we can amnesty PP cant we ?

A core of Rondo, Smith, Martin nd big Al is easily a 50 win team IMO. Still we wouldn't be contender for a championship,  but some relatively young talent to build around with good defenders with Rondo and Smith and go to scorers with Big Al and Martin.

I think that's the best the c's can hope for for the next 5 years....

Well if they keep the team option on Bynum and Fisher takes his PO their at 86.4 million for next season already. Say Fisher retires (3.4) and they kick bynum to the curb (16.1). That would get them to 66.9 million. What is the cap? 58? So they'd have to then amnesty Kobe (27.8), a major PR negative that would almost make me happy to see that backstab. Then they'd be at 39.1 with Meta, Gasol, Walton, Blake, McRoberts. So still a couple million below the max for Howard, I believe once holds are accounted for.

Pretty ruthless to amnesty Pierce. But maybe (maybe!) you could get a Rondo/Martin/Pierce/Smith/Bynum group.
