We dodged a bullet...it would've hurt our cap space for next year, only guys signed next year would be rondo, pierce, johnson with team option on bradley and moore. Bass could opt out next summer and sign somewhere else.

If we trade Bradley for a pick we gain 1 million in cap space and Moore is a scrub anyway. We would have 25-26 million in cap space. Hopefully Howard is a free agent then we could start his first year at 18 million and have 7-8 million to resign KG and Allen to multiple year (2 year contracts). Then sign vet minimum guys... West is finished forget about him he's just looking for his last payday.

WHO ARE WE GOING TO SIGN WITH THAT CAP SPACE?

im sick of hearing about preserving cap space.  howard, paul, and d-will won't be available next season.  the free agent crop you're talking about next summer sucks

the cap space won't be much good except for cobbling together a team that will ensure us a high lottery pick after next season.
At this point, it looks like Danny will have to use that cap space in trades more so than free agency.

Look for opportunities like the recent Lamar Odom to Dallas trade or a deal like when the Suns traded Kurt Thomas + two draft picks to Seattle to get rid of his salary. Use those extra picks to rebuild more slowly.

I think it'll be a mixture of both = trades + FA signings with that cap space.

yeah, i get that.  but what that means is a long, slow rebuild.  i just feel like a lot of people talking about "cap space" have this idea that we're just going to put together another contender with free agents next year.  it's not reality.  it's a dream.  getting david west this year might have eaten into that cap space, but it would have made our team a lot better this year.

oh well, back to the rubbish bin after this season.

Celtics no longer have to wait to sign two rookies from Purdue -- Moore and Johnson. They could've been in sign and trade to Hornets.

@WojYahooNBA

I thought we had already signed Moore.

Well that's a punch in the face. We pretty much built this team under the assumption West was coming, I think.

Awful news about the Pacers getting him.

This offseason.. Absolutely nothing but a rollercoaster.

This one has been very disappointing.

I was hugely looking forward to KG at center and a team of elite shooters around Rondo. It would have been the most beautiful offense in the league.

Danny should have put more picks on the table. There was never enough incentive for New Orleans to take on JO's salary. Danny needed to do more.

yeah, i was really looking forward to seeing that front court in action.

ah well.  we get to watch JO play 1/3 of the team's games and Wilcox start the other 2/3.  yay.

Yeah, at least the offense be very good with Chris Wilcox in there. He's an excellent finisher and will develop a wonderful connection with Rondo. I am even better than with Shaq at center last season. Wilcox will give about as much, maybe a slight bit more, defense than Erden. A lot more rebounding than Erden though.

It won't be so bad.

Yeah, agreed, I think the C's are pretty much out of the running to sign a max contract free agent next summer at this point too.

Not going to be quick and easy.

Houston and LA were not the only ones to be effected by this CP3 debacle.

Maybe now that the Mavs got Lamar Odom, S&T Samuel Dalembert for Jermaine O'Neal and a second rounder? The Kings need to spend but have a logjam at the 4/5 with Hayes, Hickson, Thompson, Cousins, all of whom will take major minutes.

I don't think it would have helped.  Adding salary to NO seems to be the big no-no of the offseason.

2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

you're right, it won't be so bad. it'll be roughly the same as last year.

which is to say, spinning our wheels.

At least spinning our wheels got us a bit excited last year, with Shaq and Jermaine.  We could live in denial about it.  But this year... im not so sure.

correct.

we saw the ultimate results of spinning our wheels last season.  of course, some people will say it would have been completely different if rondo hadn't gotten injured, but i disagree.

we're headed for basically the same result this season with this group.

I mean, Rondo snaps his elbow and is at about 30% effectiveness and the next 2 games are decided by a possession...I think it's tough to argue that it was a lost cause.

i really don't want to get hyperbolic about this, but seriously, the difference between a celtics team with a KG / JO starting frontcourt and the team with a West / KG starting frontcourt is ENORMOUS.

if danny swings and misses on all of his attempts to revamp the starting 5, it will be very disappointing.  difference between guaranteed 2nd round exit and "anything is possible."

Obviously not the likeliest scenario, but if JO's fairly healthy then they'd be in the "anything is possible" category.

if JO averages 15-10-2 this season, sure.
