Eh...  I'll let Edgar fight his own battles, but honestly, it's a pretty lame interpretation in my mind.  Also, there's precedent for "no dancing" laws.

But, if "dancing" isn't allowed, then amend Edgar's pick to Live DJ + Dance Floor.  However, on his behalf, I do think "dancing" should be allowed as an activity.

My feelings on the DJ/Dancing pick.

Edgar does have to pick one or the other since DJ'ing is entertainment and Dancing is an activity.

While you can't control whether dancing occurs at your bar, there are clearly bars that are better set up for dancing than others.  If Edgars activity is dancing, I picture his bar having the perfect setup for bar/club dancing and the rest of us being stuck with the patrons that want to dance to our live music.

But I do see a distinction between dancing along to live music and a club set up specifically to attract a dancing crowd

I think that's getting into atmosphere/envioroment, which is free to owners interpretation.

But televisions aren't?

I think you're being arbitrary here.  You can't change the rules just because somebody makes a great pick.  (And yes, I am "that guy", but come on, fair is fair.)

I don't think a bar can select something that is not an inanimate object as an activity.  The patrons don't bring the other activities to each bar.  That is provided by that bar.

I can understand if he takes a DJ and no other bar can have a DJ, as the bar would provide a DJ booth.  But how does a bar prohibit one from dancing on their own free will?

  • I left Indiana. Because it was horrible.
Edgar's bar is gonna be huge. I expect it to be a Matrix style warehouse located across two zip codes with so much stuff going on between the dancing and cirque shows. Which is a good thing, because if I'm going to a bar I need to be assured that I'm at least 500 feet from Criss Angel at all times :).

This makes sense. Also, I think Edgar can either take a DJ as his entertainment or dancing as his activity if we're getting into the weeds with it. That's nothing he can't fix with his next pick of the day, it's just a two-parter.

I still have no problem with the Dance club pick as his activity.  you are talking strobe lights, dance floor etc.

1st off...how did I get skipped?

Secondly, I'm selecting The Black Keys.

Thirdly, people can dance at my bar. That's ridiculous. My next pick is gonna be 'breathing'.

best activities still on the board:

1. breathing
2. talking
3. making out (slides to #3 b/c #2 is usually a precursor)
4. walking
5. ordering
6. (relieving oneself -- important at a pub)

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
But, if "dancing" isn't allowed, then amend Edgar's pick to Live DJ + Dance Floor.  However, on his behalf, I do think "dancing" should be allowed as an activity.

Well, to be more direct about the way I interpret these things:

Darts are real physical things (dart boards, darts), pool is a real physical thing (pool table, balls, cues), cornhole, I'm told, is not an alias of Beavis, but is actually a real thing. Television is a real thing.

So, if what Edgar wants is a dance floor with rave lights to that he makes his bar into an everynight Ibiza party, that's cool, and nobody else can do that.

But you can't monopolize 'dancing', anymore than you can monopolize 'randoming hooking up with a 5 at 2am while thinking she's a borderline 8 because you're drunk'.

If dancing is gone I'm going to make capoeira exhibitions an entertainment option at the WSC. It's like dancing, but it's really fighting, so that's even better!

EDIT: Also, if we do this again, I vote everyone starts out with a 'partially furnished' bar, including, TV's (if wanted), speed-rack capable of mixing cheap booze with soda, (like everybar everywhere has), bathrooms, stools, etc..

Basically you get a basic bar, that you color by number.

Btw IP, I absolutely loooooove the Black Keys pick.

They were one of the bands that I was definitely considering.

"Howlin' for You" live?  Game over, man.
