My Lakers are very strong defensively at every spot. KG can play off of Kareem and let him operate in the post. He can shoot the mid-range shot or slash to the basket with his quickness.

KG can also guard any spot on the floor as well. Opposing teams will have to look out for KG's weak-side defense. His leadership and intensity are infectious.

The younger Kareem is a nearly unstoppable force offensively and defensively. He has held his own vs most centers here.

Admittedly - he could have issues physically with Shaq - but I could have a remedy for that tomorrow  ;).

Gary Payton will be well-suited as our first line of defense. His shooting will keep opposing defenses honest. He is a proven floor general as well and so far has two very attractive targets to pass to, with more coming in latter rounds.

I sort of wish I had played this, but I don't have enough time. I am enjoying watching everyone make their picks though. There's one player who I'm absolutely amazed hasn't been picked yet. I thought he might be first round.... I suppose that's why the game is played!

There are two that haven't been picked yet that I thought would be first and second round, (I'm sure we're thinking of the same guy) ... pretty interesting and fun to watch things develop. Maybe you can join us next year, (I'm hoping this becomes a regular part of CB). You really only need a few minutes a day to make your picks, though the discussion is quite a bit of fun in itself. :)

I'm a college student, and I was in the midst of moving out for the summer, so I wasn't sure. I can think of two people who I thought would be first & second round picks (we're probably thinking of the same two guys), but one especially stuck out to me because it seems like point guards are going so low down on this draft. Whoever got Magic got a total steal!

I like Stockton, but there are much better point guards still on the board at this point.

You're probably not the only person who feels this way, but I love Stockton, and would rank him as high or higher than any PG left.
the thing with John is he was very good for a long time, but he doesn't have any Monster seasons. He doesn't have a tiny Archibald season floating around. I took him last year and moved up to get him, so I like him, but there was a run on pg's last year meaning I had to move up or risk losing him, and many of the pg's taken ahead of him are still on the board right now.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I know Edgar isn't a fan of lebron, but he will be very difficult for the SF's taken thus far to even slow down under modern rules.  For example, How is Larry going to keep lebron in front of him without hand checking?  Pippen would have the best shot, but I don't think he has the size or strength to keep lebron from posting him up. And you certainly can't double him or Moses is getting an open dunk or Bob is getting an open jumper which he will make.
Thing is only one panelist said they are using modern rules. Also, modern rules work both ways. What happens when contact is made between Lebron and Larry? Lebron isn't guaranteed that call anymore. He might now get in foul trouble. Is he going to cheat off Larry as much as he does others because if so Larry goes nuts from 3? has he ever played one on one defense against a passing big man as talented as Larry?

Also, remember, Lebron's Achilles is loading up the middle and making him stay outside. I think it's fair to say Lebron has seldom played against the quality defensive front lines he has seen in this game. If he can't get in lanes, its fair to say that small forwards like Pippen and such will be able to give him a tough time. heck, Tony Allen gave him a tough time when he could drive the lane, what's he gonna do against a Pippen in his prime?

Lebron is a beast and a great player but we are talking the best players ever here in the best years. I don't think the difference between him and others is so great, modern rules or not.

Well - there is one particular PG that is still on the list - right now - that I picked last year, and if I remember correctly I got dinged for it - because he didn't have a good FG%. I loved the guy, but chose to leave him out there this year.

GP had a slighly better %, at least according to basketball-reference.com, than a few of the PGs that are still left. I imagined the scenarios I could face vs the teams here, and I don't plan on having too many negligible weaknesses this time around.

I must say that the most confusing thing so far is that I keep seeing references to "Career" - when I thought we were to go off of "One Season"?

I was dinged by Fairweatherfan and I think another poster for this on yesterday.

It was all my complaining about being able to get PGs in later rounds in other drafts. People were listening and now PGs are dropping into further rounds and bigs are important.

Hehehe. Thought I would take the credit for that even though its not deserved. ;) ;D

My theory on the PG thing.

I think people are seeing the importance of bigs & swings over the years in regards to winning a championship.  I also think the top tier guys in those spots are more of a premium while there are several PGs that seem comparable to each other.

I just want to mention with Miami, if you try to double Wilt or Mchale, the other has a 1 on 1 or can kick it out to one of history's great shooters in Rick Barry. Double Barry and he uses his sensational passing skills to kick it back to Wilt or McHale. ;D

See Now I understand a little better the Barry pick
is like Ainge on steroids.
and hes not as good as a passer as hes supposed to be a rebounder
so the rebounding must be good there too

Well, all I ask folks here to do is NOT judge Gary Payton on his days in Boston - he was well onto the latter portion of his playing career here and couldn't put the team on his back quite as much.

He was a shell of the GP then compared to the one in Seattle/OKC.

But in Seattle/OKC? All that stopped he and his team from a Banner was CHI.

Here's my approach to this draft.

Priority 1:  Pick guys I like
Priority 2:  Fill a somewhat realistically functional roster while fulfilling Priority #1.
Priority 3:  Not defend my team on any basis other than personal fulfillment of Priorities #1 & 2  (therefore making my team a guaranteed winner to the only opinion that matters).

It's all about me.  ;D
