I don't care about Paul George.

If he can give us quality role player production, I am good. If he only gives us half season, that is fine. I mean what more can we expect given his injury record of the past 7 seasons.

What does it matter anyway? He gets hurt then the young wings step up and replace his minutes. Is that a downgrade? Is that big of a downgrade? It is significant but it is not huge.

How much difference does Paul George even make to a team these days? Is a guy who improves a team by 10 wins? Nah. Not healthy enough. Even if he was healthy for a whole season, is he a 10 win a season impact player? Probably not. When is the last time he has added 10 wins to a team? It has been years. Probably closer to 7-8 wins at 36yo.

Let's say 8. So we get half a season. 4 wins. Lose out on the other 4 wins because he is injured for the other half but the young wings come in and replace him. They can't give us those 4 wins but they can probably give us 2 wins. So we get 6 wins instead of 8. Again, who cares. It is 2 wins. It doesn't matter greatly if we only get half a season out of him vs a healthy season.

PG13 is not important to the success or non-success of this team. He is a useful addition but he is not driving any major impact here. He plays, fine. He doesn't play, fine.

He is our 5th most important player. Tatum, D White, Pritchard are all core players. PG13 is just a rental. A mercenary. Heck, I'd say Queta is more important than PG13. Hence, 5th in the list. M Robinson might even challenge him for 5th.

PG13 is not important. He is just a role player.

The only thing about PG13 that matters is that he is the "new Theo Ratliff".

PG is our guy now, like it or not (and apparently there are some that don't like it).

Who does like it, compared to JB?

Two different things.  Paul George cannot replace Jaylen Brown but that does not mean he won't contribute to the team in his own way.  I have accepted the trade and now I want to focus on what PG can do to help the Celtics.

I have said many times that I don't like the trade, that I do not think the trade made the team better.  But that does not mean I don't like PG.  I am not going to dwell on this.  I like what I saw from PG in the playoffs and I hope he keeps that up for the Celtics.  And we will see if Management is able to do anything with the picks or otherwise to help the team.

I didn't see much from PG13 in the playoffs. The guy got on a hot streak and had a larger impact than expected because of it. Without the hot streak, he would have been a peripheral figure - as he has been throughout most of his 2yrs in Philly.

I am going to root for Paul George too.  I root for the team, not individuals.

Same here. TP

Peripheral player is fine.  The thing I?d like is for him to be a consistent peripheral player.  Play smart, be a positive force defensively and an efficient 13-17 ppg with an occasional 20+ shooting game.  Jrue was a peripheral player, so was Al.  The Cs will make up JBs 29 points by committee.  Will be interesting if someone emerges as the prime JB offensive *replacement*.  PP or DW are first thoughts but I don?t know if either has more to offer moving forward than in the past.  I think Baylor has a chance to kick things up.  Smart player who may be putting things together in a better more efficient way in year three.

I was a big fan of JB and I would not say he was a dumb player, but I think this years team has a chance to improve its overall bbiq. If they do, it will be fun to watch.

I think that's a reasonable expectation.

I'm just not sure that an NBA team can win without a reliable second scorer.

Pritchard averaged 17 PPG last year. If he bumped that up with White and George settling in as 3rd and 4th options would be good. A little more scoring from the Baylor, Hugo, Jordan trio would be helpful too.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Tatum missed like 80% of the season last season. We just need Tatum to replace Brown's scoring, and George to replace Tatum's' scoring. Everybody else can stay about where they were and we'll have similar output to last year.

I realize things will likely shift a little bit, but not having Brown doesn't mean we now need Pritchard to put up 26ppg or Baylor to bust out and average 16ppg.

Edit: I suppose we need to make up Simons' 14ppg, but that is a lot easier than making up 29ppg on super high usage for Brown. I'm going to assume that George will play more than 16 games, as well...hopefully.

I resurrected this thread as we are getting closer to the start of the season.  Maybe there should be a separate thread for this or a poll but I wanted to see if people would make predictions on how many games PG will play, or other less specific predictions.

I am going to put a games played over under at 60 games.  I will put the average minutes per game at 28 min/gm.  I feel if he gets to 60 games, that is a win.  That would be more than Porzingis ever got with BOS.

George played nearly 36 min/gm in 11 playoff games last season.  To me, he looked very strong or sturdy, he did not look gimpy like you often see in older players like Embiid or Porzingis.  I recognize that I could be falling victim to recency bias, but he looked like a player who has a few more good seasons in him.  More like Horford (who had between 60-69 games while in BOS) than Porzingis.  Not saying as durable as Horford, just closer to Horford than Porzingis.

If we make the playoffs, and he's ready to play in the playoffs, I really don't care all that much if he plays much during the season all told... except for trade value at trade deadline.

I don't care much about PG13 the player. He is a contract / trade piece - that is it. He is Theo Ratliff 2.0. Anything PG13 gives us beyond that (player contributions) is just icing on the cake.

He gives us 40 games. Fine.
He gives us 60 games. Good.

Whatever.

He is just a trade piece.

Under 60 seems a pretty safe bet. If you just take out 1 game for every back to back that?s down to 68 or so already.  But maybe he?ll play both ends of b2b. Hope just good proactive health management brings him to about 55 games.  And I?d guess under 30mpg, 28 sounds about right.

To Jamb - JT will make up for JBs 29 but I don?t expect PG to make up for JTs last year production. My biggest hope is that he is efficient. 13-16 efficient points would be great along with good D and minimal turnovers. This is where they compensates for JB - greater efficiency and fewer TOs. Better 3pt shooting. The team did ok with overall with turnovers but JB had 3.6 a game and led the league in turnovers with 259. PG turned it over 1.7 times a games.

But I think the unknown is whether one of the random wings emerges as a consistent scorer - 10-12ppg. It?s possible. I don?t think PP or DW can be expected to up their ppg.

I would take the under on games played.  If he hits the 60 Mark, it will be an aberration.

Also, I would not expect the same type of playoff performance next year. First, his shooting is simply not sustainable at that level. But more importantly, I think he really benefited from having 25 games off during the season where he wasn't rehabbing. It was essentially just rest. That's allowed him to go into the playoffs, healthier and fresher than he had in years.

Paul George shot 49% from 3 in the playoffs last season.  I certainly don't expect him to sustain that.  And I don't expect him to be able to play 36 min per game over a season, even 60 games.  I would be happy with Horford minutes (27-30 min/gm his last stint with BOS).

George no doubt did benefit from missing the games last season due to the suspension, he was fresh for the playoffs.  That time off allowed him to get right.  He should start the season in good health  this season also.  I am not pretending to know how long he can sustain that.  He played 10 games at the end of the season and 11 games in the playoffs.  He looked great and put up solid numbers.  Small sample size, yes, but enough that it is not a fluke.

We'll see.

Never liked PG much but have to say hope he doesn't take people's lack of enthusiasm personally. Team lost a fan favorite and a finals MVP. PG is still a good player in the league and has been great at times. He has had a very good career and decent success as a player. His game has earned my respect at the very least. I would tell him to, "Play your game and enjoy your run with the Cs".

I hope he is under 60 regular season games.  If the team was a great regular season team last year I am not worried about this team in the regular season as in my opinion they are better (considering what they did last year without Tatum basically).  No need to wear PG down so I hope he is around 45-50 games played.
