I think THIS guy could give Shaq a run for Stats from the 5 spot for a season:

http://www.nba.com/historical/playerfile/index.html?player=kareem_abdul-jabbar

Check out that 75-76 season. 27.7 pts, 16.9 rebs, 5 assists, 4.1 blocks, 1.4 stls, 82 games, 529%, 703% FT.

Yeah but 2000 Shaq would've eaten Lew Alcindor's lunch, although Kareem matches up well height-wise, Shaq's power is undeniable, coupled with as good or better athleticism.

Great point...but who would you rather have on the free-throw line in the clutch?

But even with THAT - The Big Shamrock seemed to ALWAYS make those free throws when it counted, lol

But yeah, Prime Shaq was a freak of nature....I've seen MAYBE one other player in his prime that could even remotely slow down Shaq, physically....and RebusRankin picked him.

Hakeem beat both Centers being discussed in crucial playoff series.

When Shaq was 22 years old?

Hakeem beat Wilt when he was 23, Shaq shoulda maned up.

I think he's referring to when Hakeem was a Raptor

MJ number 1 woo hoo

Yeah, it is woo-hoo to me. I'll take this as a show of support. Congrats to Redz on the early lead. ;)

It was MJ or Bird all the way for me.

My way of thinking was MJ was the first guy at that stage of my life who convinced me that Bird was not the greatest athlete in the history of the universe (and other universes too).

Larry was a god for me growing up.

Happy to have him playing for the franchise who he torched for his final great performance.

Well said. Larry is without question my favorite player of all-time, and nothing will ever change that, but as you say, MJ was the only guy to ever seriously challenge that concept for me, at least in terms of "best", (although as I've come to appreciate defense in my more recent years, Bill has gone from 3rd to sharing 1st with MJ).

Funny, when I was in college in Boston, I looked a lot like Larry, (when he had his moustache and longer hair), and I had some frightening experiences because of it, (I'll have to find a pic of me then and post). I'll have to share a couple of those stories some time ... like the time my brother and I were deluged with camp kids at a McDonald's drive-thru in Danvers ... it was frightening, cuz even though I was showing these kids my license, they would just not believe I wasn't him. ;)

Remeber this team? The original "Dream Team" ... man, no other team will ever come close!

(From left to right: Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Scottie Pippin, Michael Jordan, Christian Laettner, John Stockton, Coach Chuck Daly, Magic Johnson, Clyde Drexler, Charles Barkley, David Robinson, Chris Mullen, and Karl Malone. Wow).

I know they wanted a college player on there, but it's crazy that Laettner made the team.  Yes, he had a great college career, but he shouldn't have gotten a spot over guys like Isiah.

Big O's single season has to be a near no-brainer, right?
nope.  I think the only no-brainer is Wilt.

I don't think Wilt's is a no-brainer by any means.
You may be right and it may depend a lot on the rest of the roster, but taken in a vaccum, his is about as close as you can come to a no-brainer (at least with respect to the all time greats).

Shaq's to me is probably the biggest no-brainer, right?

99-00: MVP, Finals MVP, and like 30 pts, 14 boards, 80 games, 3 blocks, 4 assists?

I'm paraphrasing, because I've looked at those stats so often. I don't know anyone who had a better season from the 5.

I think THIS guy could give Shaq a run for Stats from the 5 spot for a season:

http://www.nba.com/historical/playerfile/index.html?player=kareem_abdul-jabbar

Why would you take that over 34.8pts, 16.6 rebs, 4.6 assists, on 574% shooting!!

Plus I bet he still averaged 4 blocks if they recorded them.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

You mean when Hakeem beat Kareem when Kareem was 38 years old?

ROUND 1    Monday May, 23, 2011
1:00   1. Philadelphia 76ers - Bahku - Michael Jordan

Yes he is.

1:15   2. Portland Trail Blazers - Redz - Larry Bird

A little early imho, but coming from my amigo Redz and winning like 1000000 lovable points could help in the long run

1:30   3. Dallas Mavericks - Rondo2287 - Shaquille O'Neal

I just think people could argue about this and the enxt being flip flop but i ven consider shaq as No. 1 so its ok for me

1:45   4. Indiana Pacers - StartOrien - Bill Russell

See up  ::)

2:00   5. Atlanta Hawks - WeMadeIt17 - Kobe Bryant

Nah.

2:15   6. Miami Heat - Rebus Rankin - Wilt Chamberlain

Worth 4 to 5th pick.

2:30   7. Seattle SuperSonics - KCattheStripe - Hakeem Olajawon

Fair position for him in his prime, after all hes the Dream.

2:45   8. Chicago Bulls - nickagneta - Magic Johnson

See Larry Bird wiuthout the 100000000 lovable points.

3:00   9. Los Angeles Lakers - GreenFaith1819 - Kareem Abdul Jabbar

I never liked karrem game but when he was in his prime he really dominattes, he doezsnt have tha much competition sadly so I will say its a little early for him,

3:15   10. Denver Nuggets - mgent - Oscar Robinson

History speaks for itself, I will keep my mouth shut in this pick I can still think 3 players that i pick before him

3:30   11. Boston Celtics - 33-00-32 - Tim Duncan

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........ My brain refuse to accept this pick here

3:45   12. Memphis Grizzlies - Moranis - Lebron James

I couldnt disagree more with this pick.
Absolutely TOO early for him.
Of course I am biased

Wasnt that spot supposedly to be used by a young player, sopposedly Shaq? and then given to letter for injury or fight or something i cant remember??

In summary:  Edgar thinks every guy other than MJ was picked too high. ;)

I'm very curious to see who the three guys are that my former CrotoNat Co-GM has over Oscar Robertson.

Not much competition for Kareem? The 70's and 80's?

I think those two eras produced the most well-rounded Centers ever, IMO.

Wow there's still so many guys left.  With 12 people these teams are gonna be so ridiculously deep.

More fun than I thought it would be.  Wish I knew about it last year (or maybe I did but I was in too much pain from losing the Ultimate Draft to consider competing)

I actually had Kareem ranked #5.  I think he's a little underrated in these parts.

I figured my Lebron pick may not sit all that well with a number of people here, but when you actually consider pace his 09/10 season (29.7p, 8.6a, 7.2r) far exceeds that of Oscar's triple double season.  People are sometimes blinded by the big numbers of the past in these things and don't account for pace. Lebron, quite simply, had a more dominant season (when compared to league averages) in 09/10 then Oscar did in 61/62.  Just for some reference the lowest scoring team in 61/62 scored 110.9 ppg (which was 3.9 ppg lower then second lowest).  Four of the nine teams that year were over 120 ppg.  In 09/10 only Phoenix cracked 110 ppg and nearly half the league was below 100.
