Not much competition for Kareem? The 70's and 80's?

I think those two eras produced the most well-rounded Centers ever, IMO.

I actually had Kareem ranked #5.  I think he's a little underrated in these parts.

Yeah..I suppose he is under-rated here. But I'm ready to fight for him.

For the next two weeks, I'm a Laker.

The Lebron pick was a great pick.

I figured my Lebron pick may not sit all that well with a number of people here, but when you actually consider pace his 09/10 season (29.7p, 8.6a, 7.2r) far exceeds that of Oscar's triple double season.  People are sometimes blinded by the big numbers of the past in these things and don't account for pace. Lebron, quite simply, had a more dominant season (when compared to league averages) in 09/10 then Oscar did in 61/62.  Just for some reference the lowest scoring team in 61/62 scored 110.9 ppg (which was 3.9 ppg lower then second lowest).  Four of the nine teams that year were over 120 ppg.  In 09/10 only Phoenix cracked 110 ppg and nearly half the league was below 100.

Honestly, on talent alone, its a winner.

Wow there's still so many guys left.  With 12 people these teams are gonna be so ridiculously deep.

So did you change your mind about this?

In an all time historical draft like this, all 12 players will get a chance create a very strong team. Drafting position shouldn't matter a lot.
Shouldn't matter a lot picking role players, but it's HUGE in the first round.  The top 6 or 7 picks get players that will almost surely give them an insurmountable lead.

Hakeem beat both Centers being discussed in crucial playoff series.

When Shaq was 22 years old?

Hakeem beat Wilt when he was 23, Shaq shoulda maned up.

You mean when Hakeem beat Kareem when Kareem was 38 years old?

That is what I meant, with the addition that Hakeem was 35 when that happened.

I was surprised with this pick, but I think there are still some players left that you can surround him with...definitely.

Take away the drama that he's been around, and his abilities remind me of Magic and Larry.

Think I might go with this season....from my point guard:

PPG: 22.5
APG: 12.8
RPG: 7.9
STPG: 1.8
FG%: 50.9%
3PT%: 31.4%
FT%: 91.1%
NBA MVP

Though depending on who I fill the roster out with maybe a young Magic with 18.6P/9.5A/9.5R/2.7S/54%FG would work although there is the '87 version that was just dominant in winning it all at 23.9/12.2/6.3/1.7/52% MVP, Finals MVP. Although I'm liking the older wiser MVP Magic best at this time.

I think the Lebron pick is defensible. He probably wouldn't have been my next pick, but he would have been in the conversation.

I had Lebron as a late 1st round talent.  I think he went just about where he belonged.

I had 4 players for my 2 spots.  Lebron is obviously who I went with for the first of my two picks.  I will be taking a big man at the start of round 2.

I think people's dislike of him clouds their judgment on his overall basketball skill and his future place in history.  Only one other person in history has gone for 28/7/7 for three consecutive seasons and Oscar (as I mentioned above) was playing in an era that scored a lot more (and thus there were a lot more opportunities for points, rebounds, and assists).

Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

The Lebron pick where he was chosen is a dang good pick there. I like your pace argument though the counter when comparing him to say the Big O is that he scored an extra 1-2 PPG because of the three point line that wasn't there in that day. So some of Robertson's stats like 30PPG scoring and advanced stats such as eFG%s in the mid to high 50's and assist%s in the mid to high 30's(at a time when assists weren't doled out nearly as much) are pretty remarkable when compared to those of Lebron who racks up stats liberally at a time when he receives special treatment from the refs.

Again, era comparison of stats is difficult and can be interpreted in many different ways.

I don't know if it's the 'hatred' of Lebron as much as it is the preference to go with an established hall of famer whose narrative is complete.

If I'm building a team filled w/ Hall of Famers, I'd pick Lebron over Kobe 100 times out of a 100

To me, it's 1987 Magic all the way.

I'm having a similar quandry ... individually, I think 1987 was MJ's best year, but he was arguably a bit more team oriented in '88 ... and then there's ....

... man, in many cases picking the years is going to be more difficult than the picks themselves! ;)
