He has a relatively high FG% for a point, and is a great passer, which Westbrook is not.
Rondo is a great passer, arguably the best point guard at passing (only Jason Kidd really rivals him in that regard). However, Rondo's true shooting percentage (49.5%) this past season is not high for a point guard. In fact, it ranks him as 51st, with only 13 point guards in the league worse at shooting. That said, 7 of the ones that are worse than him are starters as well.
Of the 31 point guards that qualified for stats i.e. played enough games or had enough attempts (Rondo did not), Mike Conley Jr. had the lowest FT% at 73.3%. Only 6 of the 31 were below 80%. PG's are supposed to hit their foul shots and do in fact hit them.
Oh, I agree with you. My point is that Rondo's foul shooting is horrible (56.8% this past season), and
at the very least he should improve to the league average for all positions, which hovers between 73 and 75 percent. Also Mike Bibby's FT% was 62.9%, which is lower than Conley (and I believe the only PG besides Rondo below the league average). It would be nice if Rondo could get into normal point guard range, which is around 84%, if I recall correctly, but he is so far below that threshold he should work first on becoming an average NBA FT shooter.
But, his jump shooting has gotten better
When he entered the league, his FG% was around 41.8% (188-450). He improved significantly over the championship season (jumping up to 49.2% on 351-713). However, the past three seasons he has not improved (peaking at 50.8% last year, on 459-904, and regressing to 47.5% this year, on 318-670).
