LA - drafted Kobe (franchise player) and built around him.
MIA - drafted Wade (franchise player) and built around him.
Mavs - drafted Dirk (franchise player) and built around him.
Bulls - drafted Rose (franchise player) and built around him.
OKC - drafted Durant and Westbrook (franchise players).
Spurs - drafted 3 superstars (Duncan, Ginobili, Parker).
MIN drafted KG (and Ray Allen) and Boston drafted Pierce. Good management is the first level requirement. For the Spurs, I'd hardly call Parker or Ginobli superstars (and neither is Westbrook at least not yet.) They were all stars, but the key ingredient was Duncan.
Yes it takes high draft picks and good management to pick well, develop the players well, and make good moves to surround them with players that complement them.
Luckily I'm confident that the Celtics have all the right ingredients for success in terms of the organization -- good management, ownership willing to spend money, a winning tradition, good fan base etc -- all that is needed are high draft picks and luck.
But to get the high draft picks the team will need to get really bad very quickly.
