Honestly, if the Spurs do not come back from this hole, they really need to think about blowing this team up.
They should have traded Tony Parker in 2009 for a top young prospect on a rookie scale contract + jettisoned Richard Jefferson and used their cap space in 2010 for a max contract player.

Rebuilt around a declining Timmy + Manu + max contract player + high quality prospect.

That is what I would have liked to have seen them do.

Well, since that option is long since gone ...

I think they should shop Tony Parker and see what type of trade package they could get in return.

Outside of that, I think they should just concentrate on upgrading their supporting cast. Adding a big man or two who can play above average defense. Adding a backup wing player with legit size.

My guess regarding why they didn't do this is because they thought Tiego Splitter would be a bigger contributor than he was.  I think they assumed they had a championship-level core, and hoped that Splitter and the continued development of Hill and Blair would be enough.

I think you're right, though, that turning the team over to Hill and bringing in a more elite player would have been a better course of action for them.

One thing I noiticed is that the Grizzlies were two games better than the Spurs from Jan 19, 2011 until the regular season ended. Grizz improved from 19-23 to 46-36 or 27-13 in the 2nd half of the NBA season. The Spurs regressed from 36-6 to 61-21 or 25-15 in the 2nd half of the season.

One common opponent is the Boston Celtics - Memphis wins in Boston while San Antonio lost at home to Boston.

Another common opponent that both teams lost to is @Miami and home to Chicago I think both late in the season.

So this one eight matchup is much closer than the apparent 15 game seperation in the regular season. Also getting Shane Battier was huge for Memphis. I was hoping for Shane Battier for Kendrick Perkins at the deadline.

Speaking of Perkins - he is coming into the game for OKC at Den
The beatings will continue until morale improves

A lot of "nail-biters" ... but it makes for exciting basketball. It's been a fun Playoffs so far!

My Tar Heel alums are coming on strong for Denver ... this one's going down to the wire, I have a feeling. Still have trouble seeing Perk not in green. ;)

Am I the only one who's rooting for us to get the only sweep this round?

I would love it! And probably the last team anyone expected to sweep. Once again, our Boyz prove the doubters wrong! ;)
