I want to lay out my views because I don't want people to get the wrong idea... so these are my beliefs and what not:

1. I love CelticsBlog.
2. CelticsBlog is not perfect but it is probably closer than any other blog. (The US is one of the greatest countries... that doesn't mean people don't complain about living in the US)
3. Something I discussed with Chris about a year ago... there is a difference between "Chris the mod" and "Chris the poster".
4. I believe the mods do a very good job here... the blog looks awesome, the topics are both informative and entertaining, the blog is fairly liberal... for the most part they let us talk about what we want... swearing is controlled very well... etc.
5. I don't like the tone of a few of the mods... this is just an opinion... these people are good "mods" they do their job well. I just don't like them as posters because they are too sarcastic and tend to gang up on other posters. This isn't a mod problem... it's a poster problem.
6. There are cliques... like it or not. It's natural for cliques to form among people you talk with every day. I don't see it is a problem but it can seem uninviting to new posters... I know I felt uncomfortable voicing my opinions and thoughts at first... clearly I don't anymore.

I will openly discuss any of these thoughts of mine.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I think really the bottom line is if you bring quality posts and a quality attitude, you won't get drowned out. Being funny doesn't hurt either.

The one thing I did and still do take umbrage with though is the notion that new guys won't get their opinion heard. Yes, if you have a couple thousand posts you'll be given the benefit of the doubt sometimes, but just because you only have 2 posts does not mean nobody will notice post number 3. People take notice of quality posts no matter who is talking (as long as it gets read..sometimes a post can get buried).

Now if the biggest gripe at the heart of the thread is that sometimes new posters think they get intentionally ignored because of a low post count and low name recognition, I think that's 100% false. A good post shines through, and if you want to see a TP party, watch what happens when a new guy comes in with a zinger. It is rare though (and honestly most of the time when a newbie comes in with a really smart and well-thought out post, I assume it is someone who use to post here a lot that either left or was banned..in my experience that's more likely), but not unheard of.

If the biggest gripe is that new posters sometimes feel left out because they're not getting pinged in a pong conversation, well that is unfortunate I suppose, and lord knows I have a lot of those. My only defense I guess is that I've got like over a month of actual real hours logged here (probably 2 or 3 times that) posting, and I've gotten to know a lot of the people..and well if I want to tease someone about Wesley Matthews or Mo Williams (EW!!! GROSSS!), well sorry but I'm gonna do it.

I can tell you how to get in on those jokes or comments or whatever, at least with me: say something funny. I love funny, and I respond to funny. A good sense of humor and thick skin are the best tools for making friends in real life, and making 'friends' here.

Little bit of a ramble, but I left this page to eat dinner and go see Paul at around page six, and I just got through the whole mess, so I'm a little tired.

Bring back Antonie Walker/Gerald Green/Tony Allen/Sheed threads will always get numerous responses. Ainge, Perk, Krstic and Injuries are currently trending on CB. ;)

Very interesting thread...I actually just went back and read all 14 pages.

I have a feeling that the phrase "volume poster" will now forever be part of the Celticsblog lingo.

For self analysis on the matter, I went back my previous posts, quotes, conversations and determined that I don't care about ones status on here.

Newbs (under a 1000 posts) who feel this way, what's stoping you from engaging others on here?

I read a great quote on here a couple weeks ago (I forget who said it):

Quote
"I actually prefer it when people disagree with what I say, it causes me to rethink my position and defending my ideas generally improves my understanding of a subject."

Find a position you disagree with, challenge it, and learn.

Yeah, if a new poster wants this particular volume poster to instantly jump to their defense, they simply need to start a pro-Perk, anti-Krstic rant. ;D

I liked that quote too...if I remember correctly, it was BBallTim who had posted that.

And being a basketball stats nerd help too...I don't care much for them...but I know threads take off once you make posts breaking down a players stats or our teams stats.

That's a lost cause actually..but it'll still generate a lot of responses. Most of the members here have acquired a taste for the new Serbian vodka...Perk is now like a highly commerical brand of beer. ;)

It is possible that one reason some have so many posts is because they keep posting after receiving responses to past posts. It is possible they got those responses because their posts are well made.

First of all Matt offended me by calling the USA the greatest country in the world and comparing CB to it. Hello, we're not all Americans, there are Canadians, Europeans and people from around the world who post here. Don't be excluding hommie.

Second, there are cliques and cool kids? I've been here three and a half years, why was I not told?

Not acknowledging Canadians is like not saying your cousins have a different last name at a family reunion..its all family.

Now the Euros... (kidding, kidding..)
