Agree or disagree with his points he has kept his calm with a lot of people disagreeing with him and has made his points very well.

Well, besides calling the mods "stupid".  :P

I don't really have anything to add right now, but I just picked up 4 really quick and easy Tommy Points by contributing to this thread.  So, I figured I'd try my luck again.

If this post is serious then it proves my points.  Celtics18 gets four tommy points...but I've gotten none on this thread.  I'm not crying about it.  I don't care about stupid TPs.  But it shows that people respond much more so to those they know and praise them too.

If it's sarcastic then it was pointless.

Hey, thanks for the tommy points.  Whether you gave them to me or not, I suspect that your posts somehow helped me to "earn them."

I made a little joke in this thread, and I thought that would be my main contribution, but now that I feel that I've become intrinsically involved in the whole thing I'll add a little more.

As a relative newbie, I too have often felt ignored and overlooked.  As I suspect most do, I often post something and then check back sporadically (or way too frequently) to see if anyone has responded in some way.  All too often I find that I've been completely ignored.

Of course I'd like all my brilliant posts to be recognized, but I realize that sometimes others simply may not be able to comprehend my brilliance.  Oh well, I move on, and hopefully I'll be able to eventually come up with something that someone wants to respond to.  Simple.

I'm now going to give out a lot of Tommy Points.

I think your perspective is the right one:  just keep posting.

I mean, seriously, I've made over 40,000 posts on the various versions of CelticsBlog.  I'd say that at least 30,000 of those (and probably many more) weren't quoted or responded to directly in any way.  At the same time, I enjoyed posting them, and I'm sure that a lot of people enjoyed reading them, even if they didn't make a formal response.

It's not about recognition, it's about your own personal satisfaction.

  • Be the posts you wish to see in the world.
I still think KC's question is a good one:  is this an "issue" or a "problem", or is it instead just the way the world works, not just here but in almost all societies?

My understanding is that it's a pretty consistent tendency of group interaction, though it's usually unintentional in less important groups.

But your two options aren't mutually exclusive.

Let the "the mods whacked him" rumors begin. ;)

Seriously, though, it's turned into an interesting topic, and I do feel bad if some of the banter among long-term members turns people off, and if the TP thing offended people.  At the same time, a lot of what makes CB a good site, in my opinion, is the sense of community.  Rather than knocking down doors, it's sometimes good to just blend in.

While I just started posting, I've been reading the blog for awhile.  I've posted at quite a few forums before here, with an accumulation of probably around 15k posts around the web... Not exactly on the same level as some of the senior members here, but I will say this.  CelticsBlog with it's rules, and mods who consistently enforce the rules, is a much more inviting community than many forums on the web.  Nothing is perfect, but I'd say the staff here does a pretty good job, and the best they can.

See, THIS is the way to curry favor and gain recognition around here.  Our new favorite poster:  18isGREATERthan72

Thank you Roy.  Like I said, I've been reading for awhile now, mostly front page stuff, and the occasional glance in the forum.  I've seen some of the posts that you do relating to salary cap information, and it has helped me understand what is actually plausible as far as rumors go, and it's much appreciated.  I hope to be a consistent contributor on the blog now.

Back on to the topic, like I said, nothing is perfect.  Obviously there will be cases when posts are ignored, but I don't think it's intentional, or a sense of "elitism." either.

LOL.

Seriously though...its not the mods...I think they were right to get ticked off when the OP called them stupid. But a handful of posts from very few "volume posters" do have scornful/mocking undertones...although the message they were trying to convey wasn't wrong, imo. People wouldn't need to be reminded of "internet - serious business" or "get a thick skin" if these very few "volume posters" showed a wee bit more respect to other members.
