Yes, and to be honest, there's good reason for it.  You have to prove yourself and develop something of a reputation by making good posts if you want to be noticed.  It helps to have the stars next to your name and an actual avatar / signature so people recognize your posts as belonging to you and nobody else.

I don't really have anything to add right now, but I just picked up 4 really quick and easy Tommy Points by contributing to this thread.  So, I figured I'd try my luck again.

I never check my tommy points unless there's a thread about tommy points. I lost a lot of mine last year but it's likely that I had well fewer than the 1 in 5 (or even 1 in 10) ratios being thrown around.

I know it's petty, but I'm green enough that I do check mine to see if anyone's thrown one my way.

By the way, and this is actually slightly embarrassing, it seems that I've picked up and additional 65 tommy points today.  What?!!

I'm pretty sure Wesley Matthews references aren't sticking to the topic but since this thread wasn't created by a mod they couldn't care any less about filtering out off topic posts.

I guess I'm going to disagree with you again, but at least some off-topic posts have, in fact, been filtered out (i.e., see the new "I'm Awesome" thread).  So, in fact, we *could* care less.

In terms of this thread, I think there's been a pretty good mix of viewpoints.  I guess it's just a difference of opinion, but here's how I see it:  including new posters in the inside jokes, directing them to site history, actively debating their viewpoint (and not in fact ignoring them), and trying to act good naturedly are all examples of people trying to be *inclusive*.  If people wanted to isolate or ostracize a poster, they'd simply ignore the thread (or in the case of the mods, they wouldn't have opened it in the first place).

I've been on the site for years and I only have 100 posts because RoyH and The Mean Girls run this place.

  • Another undersized Celtic...

I'd recommend just going with the flow and trying to take yourself a little bit less seriously.  We all get wound up on here from time to time, myself included, but as KC so often reminds us, folks on the internet tend to take themselves a bit too seriously from time to time.  This is meant to be a hobby; we're not drafting a UN resolution here.

I definitely notice certain posters over others, not necessarily "volume" but regulars, you get to know their style, their leanings - some I attract to like flies on fly paper; others I avoid like a fly trying to avoid fly paper

In all seriousness, what exactly can be done to stop the "problem" that low volume posters see exists by people not responding to their posts? You can't force people to respond to a post and it makes one hundred percent zero sense to stop people who are familiar with each other from acting friendly towards each other by referencing past events or knowledge inside a thread.

If you are a low volume poster that WANTS people to respond to your posts, make posts worthy of being responded to. Not every post is noteworthy or worth responding to.

If you are a low volume poster that NEEDS people to respond to your posts...you have a problem.

Either way, limiting the people who have been here a long time or making the place less friendly or strictly adhering to the not on topic rule isn't going to make Celticsblog a better place, it's only going to make it worse.

Want to be responded too. Stick around a while. Try to make every post your best. Respond to others and build relationships and familiarity. And have a thick skin and be willing to defend your point of view in a debating type of fashion that sticks to the rules of the blog.

Exactly what has been done. The poster felt he wasn't receiving any attention... and he now has the attention of the whole blog. No punishment should be handed out or anything...  no rules on TPing or responding to new posters.

The poster made a good point that sparked a large thread... and I'm sure when people see his name in the future they'll recognize it and read what he has to say... I know I will. Agree or disagree with his points he has kept his calm with a lot of people disagreeing with him and has made his points very well.

Try to make every post your best.

I find fault with this premise.

Maybe but that's not what I meant.

Do you want to be known as the guy on the thread that brings up good points, adds to the conversation, has valid quality stats and knowledge and a great sense of humor or do you want to be known as the guy that is known because you were saying that your posts weren't getting enough responses?

There's being famous and being infamous, if you know what I mean. My total honest opinion on this is(and I am not going to make a friend of low volume posters or the OP by saying this but I've never been one to not opine on something)I think the OP is feeling a bit like popular kid at school that just got moved to a different city by his parents and is wondering why all the popular kids at his new school don't see why he is so special.

You're the new guy. Want attention do good things that warrant attention. Don't point out that all the other people who have been here aren't paying attention to you or creating a perfect atmosphere for you to get the attention you want.

If this post is serious then it proves my points.  Celtics18 gets four tommy points...but I've gotten none on this thread.  I'm not crying about it.  I don't care about stupid TPs.  But it shows that people respond much more so to those they know and praise them too.

If it's sarcastic then it was pointless.

Hey, thanks for the tommy points.  Whether you gave them to me or not, I suspect that your posts somehow helped me to "earn them."

I made a little joke in this thread, and I thought that would be my main contribution, but now that I feel that I've become intrinsically involved in the whole thing I'll add a little more.

As a relative newbie, I too have often felt ignored and overlooked.  As I suspect most do, I often post something and then check back sporadically (or way too frequently) to see if anyone has responded in some way.  All too often I find that I've been completely ignored.

Of course I'd like all my brilliant posts to be recognized, but I realize that sometimes others simply may not be able to comprehend my brilliance.  Oh well, I move on, and hopefully I'll be able to eventually come up with something that someone wants to respond to.  Simple.

I'm now going to give out a lot of Tommy Points.

Well, besides calling the mods "stupid".  :P
