Update.. I'm a huge Gators fan as well as celtics fan. Somebody who's well connected with the gator basketball team posted on their main message board that Cuban is putting the full court press on brewer. He didn't say the mavs were leading, but he said Cuban is making no secret that he wants him.

i'm not going to be surprised if the Mavs are able to land him. Contender + Money = attractive package.

but my green-colored glasses will still say that nothing beats playing for the C's :)) lol

If Dallas really wants Brewer, and if they're willing to pay him a lot more than any of the other contenders...  can they just claim him on waivers?  From the front page, they've got $4M of the MLE remaining and Brewer's total salary for the season is $3.7M.  It would probably end up costing them more in luxury tax that way, but if they REALLY thought Brewer was the key to getting past Kobe, could just claim him?

Or can you not use the MLE to make a waiver claim?  Could they only make a waiver claim if they had actual cap SPACE?

I really hope we get Brewer.

If we can get Rondo/Green/Brewer out on the floor together we would be MONSTERS in transition offense, those three young guys would destroy slow teams like the Lakers.

I can just see it now, Celtics would have some real athletic guys.

Yes, they would be a great running trio, and Rondo would thrive if he had guys that could run the floor. But imagine having a back court where your two guards cannot shoot.

We should all be used to it from the Tony Allen days, right?  Tony was a better scorer, but an inferior shooter to Brewer.

Also, I think Tony Allen is probably the better scorer but Brewer more consistent.

I cant imagine Brewer having the same Jekyl and hyde game that TA had. I think with brewer you know what you are getting, great defense, athleticism, and limited offense. You basically get what you got from TA on his best nights every night.

With all the latest news on what Dallas can offer combined with the necessity to have a lockdown perimeter defender to get out of the west, I dont see Boston getting Brewer  :'( :'( :'(

If we do though it will be the ultimate testament to the attractiveness of Boston's players, coaches, and history...

I think that, in general, most of the claims that I see about how inconsistent our players are compared to other players are based on actually watching our players play on a regular basis.

mavs could do that,, they have 3 TPE, i'm not sure if they have injured player exception for butler..so they could but if another team claimed him the team with worse record would get him, like the hornets. they will wait till he clears waivers.

The MLE can't be used to make waiver claims.  They do apparently have a trade exception of $4.3 million that could be used to claim him, though.

That is one of the smartest/truest things I've read on the blog recently.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Yup, although they can't be used until the offseason, and they can't be combined.  However, Daniels TPE could be very useful this offseason.  Kind of like an extra Bi-Annual Exception.

Just as a reminder, we can't combine TPEs.

Huh?  A TPE can only be used to trade for a player on another team.  It cannot help us in any way with Brewer, unless you are talking about trading for him in the offseason.

How come Dallas can use their trade exception to land Brewer but we can't?
