Mayo is a true SG that shoots at a high percentage with the tools to be a good team defender.
Nate is an undersized SG that makes the most of his talent.
Mayo can be a top line starter next to Rondo. (once Ray retires or slows down to a point where he best serves the team as a gunner off the bench)
Nate can never be more then Rondo's backup on the Celtics.
Mayo is a true 2, but you don't need to worry about people's true positions as much off the bench. Especially when you have a tandem of Nate and Delonte.
Agreed that Nate is an Undersized 2 making the most of his talents, including his passing ability when he's forced to play with the first unit, his shooting ability when playing the 2 next to Rondo, and his ability to attack the basket when playing next to Delonte. OJ has no idea how to adjust his game next to other players. It's not that he's selfish, he just doesn't mesh well. So much so that Lionel Hollins moved him to the bench so that he could essentially play iso games against opposing ssecond units because that's all he can do.
Mayo can't be a top line starter on the Grizzlies. I know Rondo makes people better but if we're going to gamble the present of this team for the future can we at least do it for someone who is a starter right now, who can make their games mesh with others?
It's fine that Nate could never be more than Rondo's back up this season and next, that's all I need him to be. Let's rebuild when we have to.
