I agree with the trade if we can get a 3rd round, and a young piece.
Moss is still good but Brady is better offensively when the defense can’t cue down on one guy.
Allow me to dive into my statistical analysis:
In ’03 and ’04 The Pats had 8 receivers with at least 16 receptions. In ’05 there was also 8 players, but we turned the ball over WAY too much. After the loss to the Broncos in the 2nd round The Pats let Deion Branch go, and they spread money between guys who should have been bench warmers. This resulted in only having 7 players with 16 grabs. Then in ’07 instead of just upgrading the mistakes they over did it by getting Moss. This put up great numbers, but overall left Tom relying too much on the deep ball (in ’07, despite completing about 400 passes, Brady only spread it between 6 guys.) In 2008 Matt Cassell’s team was only 6, and in ’09 there 7 players with at least a catch per game.
So far in 4 games there are 7 guys with a catch a game, but with Faulk out for the season we’re only going forward with 6 of those sure handed guys. I think at Monday night showed us what we’ve been missing since ’04, a group of lesser known guys who can move the chains and just be consistent. Obviously it wasn’t 8 guys, but after the defense and special teams dominated the 3rd Law Firm closed it out.
IMO The Jets game would have been a win if we didn’t keep trying for the long ball and just moved the chains with the short-to-intermediate passes.
