Hey, like I said, these rankings are all everybody's own.  I can still say one is elite and somebody else say he's not.  I just want to make sure we agree on what that is exactly.  I'd say Perk is a better defender than Noah.  Maybe just because I've seen him more?  I also think that some others (previously mentioned and I forgot Oden) could be considered right on his level also, so I say not elite.  But if you say he's in the class considered to be the best defensive centers and above all the others I mentioned, hey I'm fine with that, that's why you drafted him.

And I'm not holding Cousins to the same standards of disappointment.  Just acknowledging that the possibility of it cannot be ignored like it seems that some people are.  I'll reiterate, are people really banking on a college player who averaged 23 mpg and 3.2 fouls per game to step into the NBA this season and have a productive starting season over 82 games?  One who has motivation problems?  You'll see that I also downgraded Ty Thomas to "average" defensively in one of my earlier posts too, which makes him "below average" IMO as an overall player.  (side note: How many GMs will openly call one of their players below average? I hope you all can take most of my comments as somewhat humble and realistic opinions and not just trying to sell some b.s.)  I still believe I can find at least 10 starting PFs that are inferior defensively to Thomas.

3.  I agree with Roy that you overrate Noah.  Elite?  What defines elite?  I think in a class far and away better than most in sports (although my dictionary simply says "considered to be the best").

I'd put Noah behind Howard, Perkins, Duncan, Camby, and maybe a healthy Yao.  Bogut is up with him there too, maybe Nene also?  He finished tied for 5th with Perk in the all defensive voting.

The fact that you will never find a majority of a population to rank him in the top 6 does not qualify him as "elite" in my mind.  Dwight Howard is elite; Noah is not.
I would rank Joakim Noah as the 3rd best defensive center in the NBA behind Dwight Howard + Greg Oden.

I can't remember saying Noah was overrated...  I don't necessarily like his attitude all the time, but when his head is in the game he's near the top of the league defensively.  (I would rank him behind Perk in terms of defense, though, but ahead of Perk in rebounding.)

You didn't roy.  mgent did.  This is the second time I've done that to you during this CBDraft!!  You must just post too much!  Haha.  Forgive me?  How about for a TP?

I would rank noah very firmly ahead of perkins as an overall defensive player, because noah is a defensive leader. on defense, kg is? the leader.

in terms of defending the best centers in the league in a 1 on 1 setting...perkins ranks ahead of noah. he ranks ahead of everyone besides dwight howard and some nights, tim duncan.

Fair enough IP, I'm looking forward to hearing your defense (no pun intended) tomorrow.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
know how I know I am too involved in this draft? I am currently sitting in a cottage with a perfectly adequate supply of beer and my favorite cigars and one of my favorite books (men at arms, by terry pratchett), overlooking the beautiful st lawrence river listening to the crickets and the waves lap casually on the shore in front of me, and im checking my phone every 10 minutes to see if anyone has anything interesting to say about the draft.

by most metrics available, I am one of the luckiest people alive at this very moment, but I find myself longing for my man_cave. curse you, 36 network and curse you celticsblog draft !

Phoenix Suns minute breakdown, let me know what you guys think:

Center: Dwight Howard (40), Greg Monroe (5), Ed Davis (3)

Power Forward: Antawn Jamison (23), Greg Monroe (18), Ed Davis (7)

Small Forward: Hedo Turkoglu (30), John Salmons (18)

Shooting Guard: Wes Matthews (20), John Salmons (13), Rudy Fernandez (15)

Point Guard: Baron Davis (30), Terence Williams (15), Rudy Fernandez (3)

Minute breakdown: Dwight Howard (40), John Salmons (31), Hedo Turkoglu (30), Baron Davis (30), Greg Monroe (23), Antawn Jamison (23), Wes Matthews (20), Rudy Fernandez (18), Terrence Williams (15), Ed Davis (10)

Big difference here is getting Greg Monroe a lot more minutes. I think its going to be important for me to get him some minutes, because his height and ability to play alongside Dwight Howard would  be hugely beneficial against our taller opponents.

Terrence Williams is your backup point guard?  He's much more of a wing in my book.  I think you could use a more pure backup PG.

He's the backup, but Hedo will probably do the predominant portion fo the ball handling.

Can somebody give my advice on lineup and rotation with my roster?

PG Curry/Dooling/Augustin
SG Roy/McGrady
SF Prince/Quentin Richardson
PF Beasley/Al Harrington
C Chandler/Bargnani/Ilgauskas/Battie

I am thinking thats my starting 5 with Bargnani 6th man?
Pick 2 Heat:
Pg: Jennings/Vasquez
Sg: Wade/R. Allen/Rivers
SF: Lebron/M. Williams
PF: Bosh/Humphries
C: B. Lopez/Dalembert/Anthony

Probably the best frontcourt off the bench (although seriously weak on D).
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Maybe the best scoring front court off the bench, but I wouldn't say the best overall.

Those backup big men are going to get outplayed more nights than not.

I'd move Bargs into the starting lineup at the 4 and then have Beasley back up Prince at the 3.

Bargnani is going to hurt that team no matter what do with him.

He gives up more points (defense/rebounding) than he creates (offense).

The only thing you can do is get rid of him or limit his minutes.

--------------------------------------------

If the Lakers plan on keeping Bargnani, it's best to use him off the bench because he'll be matched up against second unit players.

In other words, less talented offensive players so Bargnani's defense won't hurt you as badly as it would in the starting lineup.
