My eight favorite teams, in no particular order:
Toronto
New York
Milwaukee
Washington
Atlanta
Chicago
Denver
Utah
Who am I slighting? Who am I overrating?
(Also, I think that when people actually look at the West, those who are calling Sacramento a borderline playoff team are going to be very surprised.)
I feel slighted.
Your team is above-average, I just can't envision a circumstance where it wins a title. The same is true of Indiana.
As for Seattle, I'm not sure if your roster was updated, KC. The rankings are 1) off the cuff, and 2) based upon the rosters listed in the Transactions thread.
I feel like the underestimation of Josh Smith and Roddy Beaubois is the reason for the slight.
The reason I have a shot of the title is because I have 3 of the top 10 shot blockers in the league. The best point guard in the game, speed and solid rebounding.
Celtics fans should know if you have a team defense with an athletic 4 who can block shots, a stout 5 who can also block shots, a championship defense can be built around that.
Let's look at your team:
Nobody can say anything bad about Deron. He's a great player, although I wouldn't have him as my #1 point guard in the league. Right now, you don't have a backup PG.
After that, you have a 6'0" combo guard starting at SG. I like Beaubois a lot, but he's inexperienced, and I don't think he's good enough to start on a championship team. Unfortunately, behind him you have a rookie and the perpetually injured Marquis Daniels.
At SF, you have a pothead / headcase coming off of a major injury. I think he'll be pretty good this year, but he's a locker room nightmare. He's backed up by a rookie.
At PF, you have a hybrid SF/PF who, again, is a headcase. Smith is a legitimately great defender, but his offense is pretty sporadic. Behind him, you have a guy who largely sat on the bench last year.
Lastly, at center, you have a guy who, once again, has been known to have trouble with guys in his locker room. Haywood is a solid defensive center, and forms a good defensive front line with Smith. Behind him, you have a guy who does little more than block shots, and who struggled to earn minutes for a terrible Wizards team.
I don't see that team as being in any way comparable to the 2008 Celtics. I've liked your teams in the past, but I think this one is going to be a playoff team that loses in the second round or earlier.
