The only reason Danny wouldn't match is because he thinks Avery Bradley is immediately going to be better than Tony, both offensively and defensively. But I find that hard to believe because I remember an interview with Danny, after we drafted Bradley, where he said, "We don't expect Avery to play a big part this season." Or something to the effect of that.

Well, he also could not match because they don't have room in their budget for a $3.3 million per year 4th wing.  I think we all seem to agree that he will be looking at backup wings with Sheed's contract, and if he does that, they would almost certainly be the 3rd wing, making Tony a bit of a luxury at that price.

I really do not think they are expecting much of anything from Bradley.

That's getting pretty cheap.  TA was our 4th wing last year at $2.5 mil and that was with Scal making more money behind him on the depth chart.

Yeah, I agree. TA is a top five on ball defender in the league. For that price, it is very reasonable. And, if the C's want to contend for the title, there is no reason why you wouldn't bring him back. I don't think we can beat teams like the Heat and the Lakers without his defense--yes I am being serious.

I think we can still beat them (pending further roster additions, etc.), but losing quality bench players like TA reduces our margin for error.

This hurts. We desparately need his defense and athleticism. Could REALLY use him against Miami & LA.

Even if we sign someone else we could still use him. If he was offered a huge contract with lots of years I could understand but for us not to match 3 year / $10M ??????????????

Someone please tell me we still have a chance to get Tony.

This offseason is getting more depressing each day.

I had my TA issues, but his defense during the playoffs was crucial. We absolutely need a defense stopper to get past that 3-headed beast in Miami, and eventually Kobe.

Here's hoping DA has something up his sleeve with Sheed's contract, although I've lost hope with that quite a bit.

I don't know if we do still have a chance. Apparently, he already agreed to a deal with Memphis.

This sucks.. We probably low balled him =/

It's official and it sucks... I hope the reasons for this non-signing are very good because right now it doesn't make sense. 3 years isn't a problem, 3 million per year isn't either... so why would you refuse to sign him for that good price? Plus he went to a team that probably won't make the playoffs while he probably got the same offers from contenders.

Mind-boggling... I just hope Danny works out something that brings us one good to great backup guard and one good to great wing scorer...

So what does this mean for Ronnie Brewer? I think this signing means he doesn't have a future in Memphis, so would it be possible for us to complete a sign and trade to acquire him? This is the only way I can see us benefiting from letting TA go...

This really is puzzling.  We have gaping holes and not many means of circumventing the salary cap to fill them.  Even if Danny does have a better option in mind, AT WORST we should have signed him at the bargain price of 3 yr 10 mil, then traded him to a western conference contender who needs a kobe defender for something else we need or draft picks.  This just doesn't make sense to me.

Danny must feel that Bradley will more than take his place, although he does not have the size or experience to guard the likes of Kobe. This will be an under-rated loss. I will miss Tony, have always rooted for him since his rookie year. Am surprised he lasted on our team this long, given the injuries, personal issues and brain farts, but I am going to miss him. He became a superlative defensive player, finally figuring out his value and limitations.

Do we now go back to MQ Daniels, hat in hand, and ask him to come back?

Maybe TA wanted to move on? Maybe he thinks he will get a better opportunity there to play?

We can't just force guys to sign with us.

This hurts because now we are limited to a min backup wing unless we can move Wallace's contract.
