Thank God!!!

Good Riddance!!!

No more having to worry whether good Tony or Bad Tony showed up. No more Tony dribbling up on a fast break while ignoring his PGs and then turning the ball over. No more accosting three point shooters because of a horrible head fake that Tony bit on. No more horrendous outside shots.

No more Tony Allen!!! Yahoo!!!!

Hmmmmmm.

Now I guess I will have to live with all the "Bring Back Tony Because He Was The Best Defensive Wing Since Basketball Was Invented!!" threads.

Yuk.

Maybe this wasn't such a great thing after all.

Hey, as long as we can keep players like Wade and Kobe in check without him I don't see a problem.

Never thought I'd say this; however, with the C's now having to worry about Wade and James at the same time, his defense would be nice to have.

Good luck with that given who's available, we now get to see our aging vets get abused by the younger athletic stars. Come the playoffs we will be gassed even moreso than last year and probably not even make it out the second round.

The only reason Danny wouldn't match is because he thinks Avery Bradley is immediately going to be better than Tony, both offensively and defensively. But I find that hard to believe because I remember an interview with Danny, after we drafted Bradley, where he said, "We don't expect Avery to play a big part this season." Or something to the effect of that.

That's the only problem right now I see right now. Pierce can contain LeBron without TA (but makes PP average on offense). But what about Ray on Wade? We need to bring someone in who can spell Ray and limit Wade.

But seriously, to pass on a reasonable contract (compared to others this season), I don't get it at all, unless DA is closing in on a deal for something big.

Doc said they have been talking with TA, but they weren't close. What were the Celtics offering, the minimum? If TA was looking for something big, why settle on $3.33m/yr for a losing team.

He didn't go to Miami or LA or even the Bulls or OKC.... but Memphis? He went from a contender to a lottery team for what, $3 million (I know that's a lot for a player like him, but he could have waited and got more)?

This is too surprising for there not to be more to it. Hopefully it's revealed in the next day or two.

thank you, glad someone pointed this out. suddenly people forgot about all his bad qualities and the fact that we're waiting for him to reach his potential but he's 28. How well have Posey, Powe, and House done since leaving the celtics? Ainge has been right in every case.

I don't think anyone was waiting on TA to tap into any more unrealized potential.

I know I was just wanted the defensive stopper who established himself as a key cog for a team that came a few minutes away from a championship, especially after Perk's injury/Sheed's retirement pushed all of our offseason resources into the JO.

Here's hoping Bradley comes ready to play.

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari

Well, he also could not match because they don't have room in their budget for a $3.3 million per year 4th wing.  I think we all seem to agree that he will be looking at backup wings with Sheed's contract, and if he does that, they would almost certainly be the 3rd wing, making Tony a bit of a luxury at that price.

I really do not think they are expecting much of anything from Bradley.

Why does it make you so happy to see Ray Allen get brutalized by Wade and Kobe (if we're lucky enough to see Kobe) in this years playoffs with no one currently on the roster to spell him?

And Avery is smaller and weaker than TA.  Maybe he can cover Wade on a good day, but bigger 2-guards with post games like Kobe and Joe Johnson and giants like LeBron?  I don't think so.

I'm sure Ainge is going to bring someone in with Sheed's contract to spell Ray and Paul, don't worry.

I completely agree. He's only 6-2 without shoes and skinny like a toothpick. He's more of a Rondo style defender. Tony's defense is going to be greatly missed. I am not a big fan of letting him go (if he is really go to Memphis) at all.

That's getting pretty cheap.  TA was our 4th wing last year at $2.5 mil and that was with Scal making more money behind him on the depth chart.
