J.O. can definitely help us, and I'll be very happy if this happens.  He's not a perfect player, but I'm not sure that he's any worse than Rasheed.

When you sign and trade you can't include another contract.

Um, yes you can.
No you can't it's in the cba.. Teams sign and trade because they don't have enough cap room to sign the player so why would the bring on extra cap room from another player? All you can send is a draft pick

Never liked oNeal one bit. Certainly does not smile any more than perk; but has a real negative energy. Could see some chemistry issues unless there is some bond with Garrnet that would help him keep Oneal in line.

I didn't realize you could sign a player who was legally deceased.

Another coup for Danny.

Legally deceased. That's Mark Blount your describing at.

I am expecting Jermaine to be a net negative for the Celtics.

I think he makes Boston a worse team. Not enthusiastic at all about him coming to Boston.
TP to Who.  I agree with all your posts here.  And in comparison to Rasheed, Sheed tried harder when it mattered.  JO just withered under the pressure.  I agree JO is a net negative.  I'd rather have Shaq, Brad Miller, Kwame Brown, Kurt Thomas... the list goes on and on.

I would rather have Kwame Brown.

At least he knows he sucks offensively and doesn't try to play outside of his skill level.
Well if LeBron does go to Miami I wonder if that'll change our backup big man equation.

They'll be selling their team hard to any big men in a position to take the veteran's minimum.

And since JO is only 31 it's not out of the question of him averaging 15 or 16 points playing with Rondo & Ticket setting him up for good looks by penitrating and ball movement. He still has 15pt 7rb 1.5blk potential in my opinion

Sheed tanked when it mattered in Detroit his last season there. JO did not tank against us in the playoffs. He rebounded and tried hard, he just could not make shots.

JO is clearly the best option after Haywood, who is going to get well over the MLE imo. JO is much better offensively and defensively than Brad Miller, Shaq, Kwame, Jeff Foster, etc...

Like Roy said, he is not a perfect player, but who is that we can sign? The talent pool of FA's within our salary range is limited. With all the money out there and teams like the Nets, Knicks, Bulls, Clips, etc...that have so much money left are going to over-spend to get Haywood, Miller, Ty Thomas, Felton, Outlaw, etc...

Lets just say that it's making the best of a bad situation.

the selling point for JO is that he'd never have to play against KG again (except in practice occasionally)

We don't want him taking that many shots, he's never been an efficient offensive player.

It looked like choking to me.  Averaged 4pts and 5 rebounds for the series, while managing airballs on two foot shots.

  • 36 charges and counting..
O'Neal would be good getting about $4 million per.

Then sign Kwame Brown as the 3rd string center for the rest of the MLE

Then use Rasheed's and Gafney's and LaFayette's contracts along with a first round pick to send to a team that wants to cut payroll and pick up a wing.

I concur with this Epic plan of attack.  TP.  Golden State anyone?

At least we won't have to worry about any ill advised threes and not trying till the playoffs. I appreciate Rasheed being here, but he still did not live up to expectations.

JO sounds good to me.

Rasheed - Asssuming retiring or part of trading his contract. Would like to have him back during the playoffs like PJ Brown.

Heywood - Dallas appears to try resigning over MLE and doesn't want a S&T.

Mike Miller - Might be over MLE. Several other teams after him also. If we could add him too that would be cool.  8)

JO over Kwame Brown - Definitely.
