Horrible pick in my opinion. Hope he was drafted for trade reasons at some point. Too small to guard most two guards in the league reagrdless of how everyone is going on about his defensive game. Cannot get to the rim and get himself to the line and when he does he is a horrible free throw shooter. The Celtics needed a very good perimeter shooter or a big man and the best perimeter shooter available was James Anderson who also could take it to the rack. He was the best player in what most people thought was the best conference in the country and the
same one Bradley played in. No comparison in their offensive games. For you people complaining Anderson played no defense that's what we have Tony Allen for at that spot and his defense was not nearly as bad as you so called experts are making it out to be. The Spurs will be laughibg along time over this one!! Horrible Pick!!

I'm just confused why Tony Allen, at 6-4, is plenty tall enough to be a shooting guard and, at times, even a small forward.  However, the 6-3 Bradley, with a large wingspan, is apparently way too small to play the 2-spot, even for 10 mpg.

Bradley looks to be longer than Tony Allen, despite being maybe 1 inch shorter. And Bradley can actually hit a mid range shot with consistency.

The Celtics can find their missing big wing shooter in free agency. There are a lot of bench holes to fill. Not all of them can be filled in one draft.

Well he looks pretty wiry. Tony is a bulldog.

Perhaps, but that's more useful at the 3.  Iff you asked the two of them to face each other and stick their arms up, Bradley may have the longer reach.  That should be fine for what ultimately will only amount to, at best, 5-10 mpg at the 2-spot.

Actually, TA's got the longer wingspan by about an inch or so, based off their pre-draft measurements.

As for Bradley, he's a two-guard who can handle well enough to run the point.  In other words, he's a combo guard, just like Arenas, Monta Ellis, Hinrich, and a million other guys.  With his defensive ability and length, he's going to acquit himself just fine against most if not all the 2-guards he's matched up against.  And if there are some big 2-guards out there who have 3-5 inches on him, that's fine too, because it's likely those guys would struggle to keep up with Avery on the offensive end of things.

With physical maturity and about 15 lbs more of muscle, Avery is a starting 2 guard in this league.  Him and Rondo would make up the best defensive backcourt in the league at that point.
Folly. Persist.

I probably should have been more clear. I agree with you. We saw Rondo guard Kobe with effectiveness for stretches in the Finals. If you are athletic enough, you do not need to have the body.

I was just saying weight and body type may be the reason people are saying he cant be a 2 guard.

Avery doesn't look too thin and he's only 19. I think after few years in NBA, he'll be much stronger.

After reading more articles about Bradley and listening to his interview, I feel more and more encouraged and excited about him. Too bad he won't be able to play in the summer league but I hope we really have drafted a special kid (and to think he is actually one year younger than me :o) and hopefully he will contribute this season but especially develops into a good to great player in the future.

Yes, now your seeing the light. Bradley was the BPA. Sure he's not the greatest fit and we don't really need him position wise, but it was still a good pick on talent and upside. He's only 19 so he could still develop into a nice scoring point and i'm not really scared of the shooting. He has a deadly midrange game and he was good from the college three (although it was a small sample size) I feel that fixing his ft% shouldn't be much of an issue the good mechanics are there.

Is it impossible for two players in one draft to become good?

I thought it was a bad pick, too... At first. He's a good, young player and it looks like you haven't done your research.

It's an excellent pick. Love Bradley's game and upside. Had - and have - no interest whatsoever in a one-trick pony like James Anderson. Bad system, no defense.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Tony Allen is a legitimate 6-4. Bradley is really only 6-2. He's only 6-3 "in shoes." TA is a lot stronger. When you're going up against Joe Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Tyreke Evans, etc, those two inches and 15lbs of muscle make a huge difference.

I loved his Blocks. How many college players have those kind of defensive stops on his highlight reel?

He seems polished offensively, too - at least at that level. And I think that Danny picked him based more off of his defense than anything else.

I like the kid, and hope he makes the team! But I must admit - I wonder what will happen with TA or Nate?

I'd expect Bradley to put on some muscle.
