JO wants to play HOW many more years?

I think we ought to remember a couple things.

a) Jermaine was purportedly injured in the series against us.  He admitted he wasn't playing like he had all year because he was hurt.

b) He played against one of the top 1 on 1 defensive centers in the league throughout the series, a guy he has a lot of trouble matching up with on the offensive end.

Consider those factors, and then remember that he actually had a decent season (14 points / 7 rebounds in starter minutes) and it's not unreasonable to think he could make a few million a year for the next few years on a contender as a backup center.

Honestly, 8-15 points in a game is better than what some centers manage on a regular basis (a certain big guy on our team often gets less than that).  

If he's good early but bad later on in the game, that sounds like he loses gas.  You have to think he'd be more productive playing against second unit players, especially if he's playing only 15-25 minutes a game.

It was almost sad to watch him play in this last series, though.  He used to be quite a player.  He looked rather washed up.

True, although I think J.O. is quite a bit better than he just showed.  I mean, he's not a 20/10 player any more, but he's also not 4/6, either.  For the season, he averaged 14/7 in 28 minutes per game.

J.O. can still be a key piece on a great team, so long as he's not asked to do too much.  He can't be your second best player, though (like he was asked to be with the Heat.)

He had no big man help at all this year. He will fit better with a team with some complimentary length.

Big men are hard to find. I'd give him 4 years front end loaded.
5 the first year, 4 the second and a player option at 3 for the last two. If he wants to opt out cause he's playing so well, all the better for us for the two years we have him. If not, 3 and 3 doesn't hurt so bad.

That's not going to happen though. I hope he has fun on the "contending" clippers at 6 million a clip.

$10/3 as a backup center would be a good deal - (not for the Celtics though).

I was about to say the same thing.  Dump Sheed and I'll take JO.

I'm certainly not a Sheed fan, but JO just isn't Celtic material.  The decline his is basketball ability has coincided with an increase in thugery.  Not toughness-thuggery.  The brawl at the Palace.  Two forearms into BBD pushing him down.  Taking down KG by the neck-and smiling about it.  The smile part is the key.

I mean, this isnt really all that surprising or laughable... ONeal is only 31 currently, 32 starting this upcoming season... So i mean him playing til 35 or 36 really isn't out of the question. Dude still Averaged 14 and 7 this year on a number 5 seed. He could easily be a great veteran center off the bench for the next 3 to 4 years. He wouldn't be my first choice for Boston, yet if we picked him up I wouldnt really be all that upset.

Bingo, he was playing on a hyperextended knee.. I don't care about his prior reputation for being soft, but it had a noticeable effect on his game.

When Jermaine O'Neal commits himself to a complementary offensive role + has no responsibility as a shot creator for either himself or others ... he is a mediocre player.

When Jermaine O'Neal tries to create his own offense, he is a major offensive liability and a negative contributor overall.

Per-36 minutes stats for two players:

Player A: 17.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.7 blocks, 52.9% FG%

Player B: 17.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.0 blocks, 52.1% FG%

To end any suspense:  Player A is Jermaine O'Neal, and Player B is Kevin Garnett.  In other words, J.O. is still a fairly productive player, even if he's not what he used to be.
