a few years under the tutelage of kg might help

KG might also completely break him.

Never been a fan of Beasley, but it's worth looking at.

I like Beasley but feel he is a sub for a few years on any good team.  He's vanished in this series.  I think we could do better with a shane battier type.

If Miami trades Beasley, it will be for additional cap space (plus draft picks), since they're on the cusp of being able to offer three max contracts.  Therefore, they'd move him to either a team under the cap, or to a team that can send back non-guaranteed deals.  Neither scenario fits with the Celts.

In chat yesterday, Chris Sheridan hypothesized that, in order to free up as much cap space as possible, Miami could perhaps dump Beasley and additional payroll and considerations onto either Minnesota or New Jersey this offseason, as neither of those cap-light teams have ever been landing spots for high-profile free agents.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
D. Wade basically singled Beasley out as needing to show up...  It never happened.  I cannot believe when I read here that people actually want this guy on the Celtics.  He stands for everything that this franchise is not...

I would never want a heartless player on this team, and that is what Beasley is.  I don't think he's in this for the love of the game, but for the love of the cash.

You basically just described the Sheed signing...

We need players who are the opposite of Beasley...guys with really high basketball IQs who play above their talent and are always fighting in every minute they get on the court because they just love the game.  Carl Landry types.

Beasley is a tremendous talent but extremely immature, and that's a call Danny needs to make. The Heat are desperate for a center.
Jermaine Oneal is going from making 22 million a year, to no job next year.

How do we know he is only in it for the love of cash?

It is possible that Beasley will be better on a team like ours where he doesn't have to be the #2 guy. I'm sure we can find plenty of guys who seemed "heartless" until they found an appropriate situation. And what do you mean by "heartless"? Easily demoralized? Lazy? Disinterested?

Doesn't he have emotional problems on record? If I am correct in remembering that, that would make him more of a wildcard than I am interested in.

I kinda agree with the idea that KG might be too intense for him. He might not be strong enough emotionally to handle that.

Leon Powe types ... Glen Davis types ... Al Jefferson types ... I agree, I'll take hard-work and hustle over undisciplined talent every time ... but isn't it nice when you get both? ;)

Why did you include Jefferson in that group? Isn't he more talent than hustle? Kevin Love is the hard work guy of Minny's frontcourt. If we want someone who isn't undersized, Noah or Varejao.

What is more important -- hustle, or basketball IQ? Those are very different things, though many conflate them. T-Mac has an enormous basketball IQ. Powe has major hustle. You can't swap their names in those sentences.

Artest is a guy who works really hard, but does is love of the game the reason? Does he love the game anymore than Sheed? Or is he just a harder worker? I bet you Powe gives effort in anything he does, regardless of whether he loves the task. Same for Ray Allen. Does Baby the game more than a lazier player, or is he just (thankfully) hyper and full of energy?

Jefferson is talent and hustle, that's why I listed him ... I think he's one of those rare players who has a balance of both, realizes it, and develops each. That's why I believe that if he can stay healthy in the future, he could become one of the top players at his position.

LOL!!  So, let's go your route and pretend that he's not lazy or heartless, but that he has "emotional problems."  Okay...then that makes me want him even less.  Using your approach doesn't make him any more desirable.  I'm not putting the kid down, because I believe what you are saying is true.  I also believe guys like him can't be trusted with millions of dollars and many years on a contract.  I believe the tag "buyers remorse" will be all over this guy's next deal...

I think this franchise should have learned by now, and especially our fans, that you don't take long-term flyers on guys with questionable work ethic or "issues" in their lives.

I don't think thats a given.  I think there is a good chance that they will go after two max guys, and then use the rest of the cap space to fill in the roster with good players, rather than vet minimum guys.  I also think in this scenario, they could be interested in moving Beasley for a player who fills a need.

For example, if they resign Wade, and sign Amare to play PF, that is approximately $34 million.  Plus $1 million for Chalmers.  Then go after say, Mike Miller $6 million, and Raymond Felton $7 million.  Then they could look to move Beasley for a defensive minded Center (like, say, Perk, who makes just about the same as Beasley).

So, I can certainly see a scenario where the C's would matchup well with the heat for a trade of Beasley for Perk.  Although after this series, I don't know if either team would want a part of it.  Perk was a blackhole on offense, and Beasley looked completely useless.  But I do think the fit makes some sense.
Perk, Amare, Miller, Wade, Felton would be a really nice starting 5.

I think you can get a lot more for Perk than Beasley - wouldn't OKC love to have a guy like Perk in the middle of their team to balance things off? I think OKC can get you more than Beasley. Tell Presti to work some trade mojo and find a way to get you player X.
