richardson mouthed off....and KG wasn't going to let him stand over PP and do it....a gently elbow to him was the warning to back off...then the rest of the heat punks jumped in....if richardson was innocent he wouldn't have got a T.

the howard elbow was to the head and he lined him up...kg went to the torso and threw it blindly

I'll be disappointed if KG is suspended but I really would not be surprised.

i never saw the supposed "vicious elbow" by KG.

all i saw was him standing over his teammate who was hurt and laying on the floor. the miami player is the one that came into the situation and started the shoving.

all KG did was put out his forearms to protect his and Pierce's space. total crap !!

btw ......... seeing as Pierce was hit hard enough on his dribble to cause an injury that sent him to the floor - isn't that a foul of some type - i dunno, just asking ??

Yes, that was clearly a blocking foul (on Q-Rich I believe).

It should be a one game suspension.

I think it's way too easy to put things on the refs not "handling" the situation correctly or a homer or hater's point of view of whether he was trying to innocently "pull" his arm loose and the elbow just "happened" to swing backward.

Ultimately, it's up to a player (and a veteran player at that) to know the situation he's in and KEEP HIS HEAD and not do something idiotic and careless to get himself suspended. There's way, way too much excuse making and not enough personal responsibilty in these sort of instances.

Look at it this way...

If the roles had been reversed and Q was laying on the floor and PP wandered over for whatever reason and he was hit in the face by an "accidental" J. O'Neal elbow, would you be ok with it being "playoff type Basketball" and no suspension?

Exactly.

Actually, yes. That was some pretty mild pushing and shoving in the scheme of things. No player, on ANY team, should earn a suspension from anything that went on this evening. I repeat: NO player, on ANY team, Celtics or not, should be suspended for the skirmish tonight. A skirmish was all. Nothing of great importance.

Personally Q had no business pushing his way into where an injured player was being tended to, and should be suspended!  When Q didn't leave KG was right to protect his injured teammate at least until the refs stepped in and told that fool Q to move on.  Even if he is suspended I believe KG did the right thing.

Well, the rulebook only says that an intentional elbow above the shoulders is an automatic ejection.  Anything beyond that is discretionary.

Since he was ejected, the minimum required by the rulebook has been met.  Howard was suspended because he wasn't ejected from the game he threw it in, so the league was forced to act.  Here, they're not compelled to, but they may if they wish.

I don't think the league will do anything further; I think they want their stars to be playing in big games, and when they can avoid discipline, they will.

The announcers seemed to be suggesting that the refs gave KG two technical fouls so that he would be ejected from the game and possibly not suspended, thus protecting a star player.  I don't think they outright said that, but I think it was something that the audience was meant to get.  I also had the sense that Tirico thought the refs were trying to offset technicals so that Miami would only get one shot.

What do people think if the refs were thinking exactly that?  Not saying they were, just wondering "what if".

If KG does get suspended, I wouldn't be shocked if the league found some pretext for suspending a Heat player as a bit of a make-up.

I agree completely. A veteran or not, I'd be more worried if KG did nothing and let Richardson push his way to taunt a fallen player than I'll be if he gets suspended.

I will be shocked if he is not suspended for game 2. Clearly the refs saw both elbows, which is why he got 2 T's. I do not think the NBA will have any choice but to suspend him.

Yeah ... Q had no reason being there, especially talking trash over an injured player ... can't believe KG got ejected and he didn't ... there would have been NO incident if Q had stayed away. Also, what the heck happened to the "Automatic Suspension" rule for leaving the bench and going onto the floor? Half the Heat team came of the bench! That said, KG is gonna be on fire Tuesday!

I was at the game and didn't have a good view of the whole melee. Any video online of the incident?

The whole thing scared the s...out of me till it started calming down. BBD came over to help KG deal with Q, just talking to him and ended up getting 5 or 6 guys attacking him. What a bunch of thugs in Miami. Punks!! Everyone on Miami who came over and started fighting like a bunch of street gang people should have gotten a technical. And as soon as KG told Q to back off (not an elbow, but a pushing away), he should have backed off and not kept talking which caused BBD to 'speak up', not anything physical at all, and the whole Miami team to gang up like a bunch of thugs. It was scary!!

A big part of that is the fact that the rulebook has a greater problem with players elbowing other participants than it does with general impoliteness.  As it should.
