I'm confused by some of the commentary on the board here.
1. Paul Pierce, if injured, has the right to take some time to get over it. I in no way whatsoever have seen Pierce as a big whiny faker on injuries throughout his career. In fact, to the contrary he's one of the toughest guys I've seen. He takes as many hard hits as I've seen. He practicaly twisted his foot off earlier this year and played...in the second half of the same game. The head wrap incident was theatrical but that was decades ago and the bottom line is that Pierce is one of the toughest guys in the league, period. If he's down, there is a reason for it.
2. KG - Kevin Garnett - instigated exactly nothing in this incident. Pierce was down and KG cordoned off the space around him. That is what all players do and it is what they should do. NO OPPOSING PLAYER FROM THE OTHER TEAM SHOULD EVER, NOR DO THEY EVER, ATTEMPT TO SHOVE THEIR WAY INTO THAT SPACE THAT HAS BEEN CORDONED OFF BY THE PLAYERS AND WITH A TRAINER ON THE FLORR WITH THE PLAYER. THEY NEVER, EVER DO THAT. THAT'S AN UNSPOKEN RULE. To violate it demonstrates Q's utter lack of class that he's always shown. But the league loves that, they love guys like Q and hate guys like KG, who actually have some sack. Guys like KG intimidate the league, the front office and they don't like it. Though I think Q definately deserved what he got and KG meant him to receive it and probably KG deserves a game for it, KG instigated exactly zero in that case. His reaction became too strong is all. He should have just shoved Richardson away.
Bottom line is, Q should have been immediately ejected for excessive taunting. He had the entire rest of the court to go around KG and Pierce and get to his bench. Instead he caused a massive fracas that put alot of players in risk of injury.
3. The Refs should be suspended for lack of action to prevent it from happening. One Ref was right there but completely oblivious. They should be suspended.
4. The Heat bench players should definately be suspended. The rule book does not say "you cannot leave the bench during a fight "UNLESS IT'S RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR BENCH, THEN YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY GO FOR IT". It says "YOU CANNOT LEAVE THE BENCH UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DURING A FIGHT, PERIOD". How can anyone say the Heat players might get leniency because, well, the fight was right in front of their bench? That doesn't matter.
