Haven't eaten bacon or hot dogs for at least twenty five years. Too much fat and nitrates. Why put cancer causing crap into your body?
Then again, there are thousands of carcinogens in the air, water and food everywhere, so maybe it's pointless to even worry about it?
But a couple of times a year I do give in to a craving for a couple of knockwurst and beans. Mmmmmmmmm

My misguided view is that something kills all of us, so why not enjoy the time you do have.  Of course, the opposing point of view had the weight of medicine and science behind it, but I'm stubborn.

In fact, I had a BLT for dinner tonight.  Maybe I was subconsciously inspired by this thread.

Good point Roy. We have to pick and choose I suppose.
Some choices are more obviously dangerous than others- smoking, riding a motorcylce without a helmet, eating bacon :), etc. etc.
Hardcore smokers will always tell you about an uncle or someone they know who's eighty and smoked two packs/day for his whole life- may be true, but some people are luckier than others and manage to beat the odds.
BTW, I just quit one of my vices- ice cream! Cholesterol getting a bit high. Just had a milkshake of milk, blueberries, maple syrup, and a banana- delicious and sounds healthy. Of course, frozen blueberries are loaded with pesticides, milk comes from cows full of growth hormones and antibiotics, God knows what they spray on bananas, and the maple syrup is in a plastic container that is probably leaching some horrible chemicals ::)
But to get back to bacon- does anything in the world smell better?

I strongly recommend bacon fried rice (with a simvastatin chaser).  Mrs. Banners' mom makes a killer BFR, one of too few good qualities, I'm afraid...

  • No contaban con mi astucia !!!
there was a late article in Yahoo this days of how to bake perfect bacon
I miss it sadly

Last week We got some chicharrones, those are our national alternative to bacon. ( You can mix with eggs too)

mmm.. this makes me want a beer and chicharron

I will be very angry with myself if I end up dying of something related of drinkind alcohol and eating delicious food, because my motto has been, like Roys, something is going to kill you and in a Conflictive dangerous , risk full country as mine, most likely be an earthquake, a flood , or a bad man.
Who knows, I decided some time ago, to spend the money, to live the life the most i can. Delicious flavours included.

Redz: I looked it up online to be sure, but it is either deep fried pork skin (like pork rinds), or it is deep fried pork bellies.

The difference is that the deep fried pork bellies is basically deep fried pork fat with incidental pieces of meat in it.

If you ever get to a legit authentic restaurant, try the chicarrones

I'll only try them if they're fried in pork lard.

Joke about it all you want...but after I ate this, the doctor started to prescribe me liptitor, then just tossed his notebook away and said "cya".

Almost off topic, but I ran across a burger recipe where you mix bacon grease in with the meat before you put it on the grill. Yum.
