I don't see what the big deal is about giving up a 1st round pick. Is losing out on the next JR Giddens such a big deal? Especially when the team would have to give him a guaranteed contract when their payroll is high already.

Because it can't be used in a bigger trade, that helps the team more.

And it could be the next JR Giddens, or it could be the next Glen Davis, Carlos Boozer, Michael Redd, Gilbert Arenas, Rajon Rondo, etc.  Especially since the way the C's are playing right now, the pick could climb significantly higher than it was when they got Giddens.

Just because the last first round pick for the C's was a bust does not mean every late first round pick is a bust

the way the draft has gone the last few years, I'm sure the celtics could buy a late 1st round pick any time they want if there is someone around that they may be interested in drafting.

There is no way I would give a pick.  Not even a second rounder.  Robinson isn't that good.  He's just flashy.

I think Nate for Eddie or TA...gives our 2nd unit a huge offensive boost...Nate/Marquis/Wallace/Baby are 4 scores in the 2nd unit...we'll also have alot more energy!

Questions, How good is Nate defensively? And will 2nd Unit PG's like Crawford and jason Williams be able to exploit him in the post?

Agreed.  Its not a matter of what the pick could become, it is that Nate is not worth it.

What the Knicks really want is someone to take Jared Jeffries along with Robinson.  If the Lakers are willing to do that, they win the brass ring.

I would not take Jeffries under any circulstances. Underperforming, overpaid stiff.

A pick would make me think ... although swapping our first for their second (which would most likely be in the 30s) is not a huge change - and a more flexible contract.

I would, depending on what else we get back. If e.g. Chandler is part of the deal, a 1st is OK. But for Robinson alone, I would only give a 2nd. There are other pieces involved anyway, except the deal is TA for N8.

Don't be so sure on the Lakers's chances on getting in on this one.

Just heard the Celtics/Nate Robinson situation getting warmer: Searching for 3rd team to make the deal happen because of N8's BYC contract.

The way things are going, the Celtics' first round pick could be in the early 20's, not the late 20's.

Why is a third team necessary if House/Williams for Robinson/Landry works on the trade checker?

I just don't want him.

He plays at the begining of the season, Knicks not good.
He is out of the rotation, Knicks ok.

More to the point

With Nate, 10-21
Without Nate 9-12

And that matters how?  He's a bench player that has little impact on a horrible team.

Actually, that is a big impact.

A 43% winning vs. 32% winning .

Roughly a 10 % drop.

thats not how stats work. you need an even amount of games in which nate played and didnt play. you are using the stats of nate in 31 games and 21 games where he didnt play. plus he is on a terrible team. do you really think that eddie house is more productive than nate?
eddie house is great i love him but when his shot is off, he is absoultely useless. nate is a huge spark of energy off the bench that can ACTUALLY bring the ball up (not like eddie)

Not according to Alan; check his profile for this post:

@matsiler it'll be a bottom five pick...low salary ($850K-$900K)...ha, I just called $850,000 a "low" salary. SMH

And maybe I'm confused cause I'm no trade expert, but doesn't the totaly salary the Celtics take back have to have a 125% difference to the Knicks? Cause I see 121% or something here for your trade, Brick....

Oh, and the trade didn't work for me, either.

Well, maybe. On the other hand, the vast majority of late first round draft picks don't end up panning out. Could it be another Boozer, Redd or Gilbert? Sure. But the chances of it being another JR is vastly greater. This is a trade that pretty clearly upgrades and addresses a weakness. Giving up a late first seems non-consequential to me.

But the Knicks are better when he is on the court...the overall w/l record is a flawed argument. Not to mention I'm seeing a bunch of NJN's, LAC's, and CHI's in that DNP stretch.
