we all knew it was a short window...we got one and i think most of us thought we would get 2 titles out of it. this is the situation that none of us wanted to face...

i think crownsy is right. i have wanted to hide the truth....but boston is just too old.

I don't think anyone THOUGHT we would get two out of it 'till after we got one out of it. But injuries got to the Big 3, and while old guys can play well enough if they avoid the injuries, once they get them they hit hard, and they never really go away.

The trades were a success. We have #17. Instead of really going through any successful rebuilding process we "cheated", and so we ended up with a small time in the sun--but it was well worth it. Let's try and get back there as soon as possible.

Honestly, i'm very happy with one title, if thats all we can get.

That was a magical year, and that team played nearly flawless basketball all year. I wouldn't trade that year for anything, and that's the truth.

I'm greedy as hell, and want one every year, but if all this team brings us is rondo and perk as building blocks in 2012 and a title, im ok with that.

Not happy of course, but very ok.

yeah i wanted at least 2...but now i want a bridge to the future...we have to get younger....danny cannot allow this team to return to the depths of hell. i still get jazzed about 17...what a great ride

Yeah.  Like many have said before, the '07 trades were a huge gamble, a roll of the dice.  It worked out really, really well for one season, then not so much after that.  Still worth it though, no doubt about it.

But if rolling snake eyes was not winning a championship at all and rolling two sixes was winning 2-3+ titles with multiple years as a contender, we definitely rolled a couple of low numbers.  If you follow the analogy.

I am afraid father time has grabbed the captain and KG and will not let go. we saw larry go out the same way...

Larry absolutely did NOT go out the same way.

He played hard.

I could still cheer for the C's then.  And they were 50+ game winners still, too, in his last 3 years.

I'm pretty sure this team is still going to claw it's way to 50 games before a first or second round exit. they only need 18 wins out of the last two months. even with the 50% win percentage the've been tossing around latelty, they'll get that.

I think the analogy was quite valid.

Disagree. We were guaranteed nothing at all, and we came away with a championship and a surprise in Rajon Rondo.

I wouldn't write off Pierce just yet.  I'm very worried about KG though.  He has zero lift and just can't move at all.

Pierce is having really telltale signs of following him down that path, though. Nagging injuries, everything looking harder, out of gas in the 2nd half, etc.

I think KG, Pierce and Allen are still playing hard. It only looks like they're not because they're old as nuts and racked with injuries.

Watch KG run, his whole body is tensed. That's the mark of someone conscious of their body - worried that their next step could bring immense pain. Its a mental thing, but it still hampers his mobility like a real injury because going 100% at "tensed" capacity is like going 70% when one is not body conscious.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Maybe we'll get lucky and after this year KG will retire and find a way to get out of the remaining years of his contract, allowing us to rebuild.

Impossible?  Well, yes.

KG is only an impediment past 2011 if we want to go the max free agent route.

Yeah, I agree.  And I know what you meant, but had to stick up for Larry there.  But he still dove for loose balls.  Sometimes, KG doesn't get after it like he used to because he knows he won't get there...so he doesn't look as aggressive.  And PP is definitely not getting after it as much.  The quickness is gone, which seems to be showing on his now-slow motion spin moves to the hoop.  Of course, it's not 100% of the time for either one...

But the place to rest is the bench.

Perk is okay, but that is it. If he is a key building block, the rebuilding is going to take a lot longer.

He's a great defensive center with some limited post offense, and he's still very young. Key? No. But a good piece.
