C's should just blow it all up by making the following trades

Garnett and Sheed FOR Illgauskus, Hickson, West, Powe, and CLE 1st

&

Ray Allen FOR Hinrich, Thomas, and Richard (filler)

&

Pierce FOR Josh Howard, Drew Gooden, and Tim Thomas (filler)

C's could then either be players in free agency (only hinrich, perkins, west, rondo, hickson, davis, and the two firsts are on the books for about 30 million) or re-sign the new players like Howard and Thomas.

I just think the C's are done (even healthy no way the C's beat both the Magic and Cavs (or even Hawks)) and I'm not sure there would be better trade out there for these guys (maybe Pierce, but he can opt out and i'm not sure there is a huge market of valuable players for an older player that can opt out).  Sadly, it is time to start over.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Only trade I'd do there is the ray one. Which is kinda funny, because it's the only logical rumor one i've seen, and we may end up doing it.

Dislike the Ray Allen trade -- just let him expire -- plus trade BBD for an expiring

Build around Rondo + Perk in free agency.

I agree with Moranis that they ought to blow it up, but none of his proposed trades seem feasible.

My version:

1. KG, Scalabrine and House to Miami for Jermaine O'Neal (expiring) and Udonis Haslem (expiring).  Haslem would be signed to an extension.

KG has a no trade clause, but might agree to vacation on South Beach with Dwayne Wade.

2. Pierce to Phoenix for Richardson and Barbosa

3.  Ray Allen to Sacramento for Kevin Martin and Kenny Thomas (expiring).

Rondo - West
Hinrich - Giddens
Walker
Hickson - Powe
Perkins - Davis

Our #1 (15-18 range), Cleveland's #1 (28-30 range) and about $15 million in cap space. Not sure this is the best idea.

Now, if sent Pierce and Wallace to Dallas for Howard and Dampier, kept Ray, and sent Garnett and Davis to Cleveland for expirings and Hickson, you would have:

Rondo
Giddens
Walker
Hickson
Perkins

Our pick (10-12) and $33 million in cap space. Still not sure this is the best idea.  ;)

Thats an awful trade, value wise, for pierce.

That ray allen trade looks good though, If sac would do it. I don't think they are looking to give up martin for ray allen's cap relief though.

I think that right now Richardson is better than the hobbling Pierce, and there is no assurance that Pierce will ever regain his quickness.  Richardson certainly outplayed Pierce when we played the Suns. And Barbosa is a good player.

OP: you are forgetting one important factor. How will Danny Ainge sell these trades to the fans?

Your plan presupposes that a free agent would want to play for the Celtics. But if you give up KG, Allen, and Pierce, which quality free agent would agree to sign here?

Rajon Rondo is a young ALL-star, but alone doesn't represent enough star power to woo anybody worth mentioning.

I would plan to continue rebuilding through further trades and the draft. I would do my best to resign Daniels for the MLE. I would not be looking for top end free agents, unless I could get another all star caliber player in a sign and trade.

If these trades went through, my team would be:

Starters: Perkins-Haslem-Richardson-Kevin Martin-Rondo
Bench: Wallace-BBD-Daniels-TA-Barbosa

That's probably a playoff team, and with a sensible trade or two and/or some luck in the draft could become a contender.
It also would have a much lower payroll.

As for selling it to the fans, did you hear the booing in the 3rd quarter yesterday afternoon?  Ainge has an equally big problem selling the present crap to the fans.

barbosa is hurt, and likely won't play again this season.

Also there have been rumblings that he may be close to calling it a career.

I agree with Brickowski. I sprained my foot this one time and I've never been the same. I'm talking constant limping, absolutely no use of foot. It was really hurting my game until I chopped it off. Now I have my quickness back, but I suck at shuffling.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.
