Celtics trade: Kevin Garnett, Marquis Daniels, Bill Walker
Mavericks trade: Josh Howard, James Singleton, Quinton Ross, Tim Thomas
This trade works in the ESPN NBA Trade Machine. Mavs use trade exceptions for both Daniels and Walker.
Celtics clear almost 20 million worth of cap space. Along with letting Ray Allen leave at the end of the season, we become a player in free agency.
Rondo / House
Joe Johnson / Tony Allen
Pierce / Scalabrine
Wallace / Davis
Perkins / Williams
This is one possible future lineup with the cap space we would gain and one that is a few tweaks away from being a contender. I love the Big 3 but it seems like their run is meeting its end.
Mavericks gain a future Hall of Famer, a floor spreading big man, and one of the great pick and roll defenders ever. He is not what he once was, but let's be clear that he didn't turn into Mark Blount overnight. He has lost some mobility but is still quite a player on nights where he has been well rested. Dallas has the guns to afford to rest him. Also, Marquis would replace alot of what Howard brings to the table for them.
Kidd / Barea
Terry / Beaubois
Marion / Daniels
Nowitzki / Gooden
Garnett / Dampier
I think this lineup can still hang with most bigs out west. Add in any potential buyout candidates and this team becomes a contender. They also keep their most valuable asset (Dampier's contract), replace Howard's production, and lose nothing of real value. Heck, we can even buyout Quinton Ross and send him back.
