The vaunted Tebow offense scored 10 points.

10 points.

When Denver runs into team that can put points on the board fast (like Detroit did), the wheels fall off on the Broncos.

The almighty Cam Newton led the Panthers to a whopping 3 points last weekend. That team (Detroit) that can put points on the board fast?  A titantic 13 points.

Mike
What does this even mean? You're the only one who's brought up Cam Newton, his regression is pretty irrelevant to the discussion. (his play and the Panthers offense has been bad lately)

Detroit ran into a buzz-saw in Chicago on the offensive side of the ball. Chicago is one of the best teams in the league against the pass and at rushing the passer, and Detroit has no ground game. And then Matthew Stafford made two horrific throws and took them out of the game, it was over by then.

Nothing in the two paragraphs above has anything to do with Tim Tebow or in anyway refutes that Denver's offense has been pathetic with him.

The point is that plenty of teams' offenses look pathetic now and again, even really good teams, yet no one takes that as complete and total evidence that they suck beyond all redemption.

Tebow has been in the league about a season and a half, gone 5-3 as a starter and while he's looked horrible a lot of the time, he's already had more amazing moments and unbelievable wins than many NFL quarterbacks have in their entire career.  How about we start to ackowledge that in a league where guys like Rex Grossman, Tavaris Jackson and Chad Henne are given multiple chances to start at QB, there might possible be room for Tim Tebow?

I was thinking of putting this in a poll, but it's too complicated.

If you're John Fox what do you do?

I think with 6 games left he has to ride Tebow.

But then what?  If Tebow keeps winning or gets them in or close to the playoffs he has to keep  him and make him the #1 guy and in the mean time try to draft a kid in the 3rd round or something and maybe try to bring in a free agent with some ability like - I don't know - Chad Henne or something.

In the mean time do you trade Kyle Orton? Brady Quin? What can you get for guys that god beat out by Tebow?

I think his hands are tied because the fans are in love with tebow and he keeps winning. And the fans will stay in love with him till he loses.

But seriously. You're John Fox....what do you do?

You're right even good QBs have bad games, and good offenses have bad days. But so far we don't have any evidence that he's going to be a capable QB. His team's offensive numbers aren't good enough and his passing numbers aren't good enough.

What he does have is 3 dramatic comeback wins and 2 other victories. Which aren't anymore predictive of the future anymore than his utterly inept detroit game, or first 8 or so drives against the Jets.

Not true, thats just selection bias. Tebow's had dramatic recent comebacks but most QBs who play in this league have lead similar comebacks if they've been starting long enough.

But hey I'll freely concede that he'll likely be better than Tavaris Jackson *shudder*.

Its a tough spot, but its not really about Fox, its more about Elway.

Elway can't overtly draft Tebow's replacement (ie spend a high pick on a QB) until its clear Tebow needs a replacement.

Its not even really a question anymore; Fox has to ride Tebow, or at least he's gotta keep him very involved in the game (maybe splitting time with another QB, but how often has that worked?)

The real question is your last point. IF the Broncos even sniff the playoffs this year, what the heck do you do?

You spend your first 3 draft picks on mobile linemen, defense studs, and running backs, and you go with ol' Tebow to church. That's what you do.

Yes he can.

If you're the GM of the football team you have to do what's best for your franchise. If the best thing is to draft Andrew Luck when you have Peyton you need to do it. If you don't believe Tebow can be your franchise QB, you draft one if you have that opportunity.

If you lack the support of your owner to take such steps, or aren't willing to stand up to the media then you should resign.

This seems sorta overly romantic to me because if you get rid of the popular kid that was winning in favor of someone else and that guy loses you're screwed.

If you stick with the popular guy that was winning you probably get at least a one year grace period and then the new QB will have the toys you drafted to play with

Tebow is without a doubt, the worse pocket passer the NFL has seen as a starting QB in years and years. That said, when he roles left he is effective and he is a pretty dang good running back.

Last night's game, if you like watching QB's making sharp accurate throws, was embarrassing to watch. Their were more poorly throw to down right amateurishly thrown balls in that by both QBs as any game I can remember in recent history. Tebow didn't make one good throw on that final drive. Everything special he did he did with his feet.

Like Slash in Pittsburgh, I think he will have his one or two years in the spotlight being an NFL enigma but teams will adjust and then he will be exposed and go away, just like slash.

Denver needs to slowly start integrating a more realistic long term offense this season to see if Tebow can do it.  I'm not suggesting just throw 50 times a game, but they need to get into the 30 pass range with more traditional play calling.  You still work in the QB draws, bootlegs, etc. but they have to see if Tebow can run a more standard offense.  If Tebow shows signs of improvement in that regard then I think the whole Broncos organization can feel a bit better about where they stand.  What they can't do is keep running a college offense and draft players that fit a college offensive system.  They have to start molding Tebow into a real NFL QB, if they can.

Bigs - Shaquille O'Neal, Victor Wembanyama
Wings -  Lebron James
Guards - Luka Doncic

 ???

That makes no sense.

Does that mean if I think the Redskins do not have a starting caliber QB I am threaten by Sexy Rexy and what he represents for the game of football?  I mean he won enough in one season to make it to the super bowl.

Or Jackson?  He has had season where his teams won some games.
